PKB/JIB,
It is my view that the point you are discussing is what makes our racing great in comparison to that of other countries. I love trying to second guess the ‘strokes’ that trainers attempt to pull, which are no secret to anyone who cares to study the subject of racing in more depth. What’s more, anyone who is not aware that these ‘strokes’ are part of our racing stands a big chance of losing at the game. Where punters are concerned it is the ability to second guess what the trainer is doing and how individuals work that provides the biggest winning edge, not matter what method of selecting the horse one uses. |

JIB/TC,
I actually thought that is what VDW was about! Seriously, VDW addressed a problem that is apparent in most punters methods of selecting horses, namely the need to approach the problem from different angles. Which of course goes some way to explain why his most used word was temperament. Without temperament you will never become a successful punter, is what he said. Just because a trainer has set out to win a certain race doesn’t necessarily mean that the horse is good enough to win it, and likewise, just because a horse appears good enough to win a certain race doesn’t necessarily mean that it has been targeted. This is, in my view, is where the VDW method scores every time. The amount of coverage he actually gave to the subject of the ‘trainer’ is, in comparison to other elements, quite small, but that doesn’t detract from the impact he was attempting to make. The mechanics of the method see to it that the trainer has been very much taken in to account. |

Ad Hoc looks like it could well be compressing for Un Jour A Vassy 340S. (Bounce Back is on a tasty mark though!)

Cheltenham today looks a tough one to second guess. First thgoughts are that Pipe has to run so many purely due to the number of horses he has. Looking at the jockeys dosn't help much either.
1:10 Korelo has the top weight and is ridden by G Supple (1-16) so is the compressor but there is a freight train of Pipe horses coming after him. Team Tassel with the man Murphy down to 10-10 Tarixen with 2nd string Moore 11-2 Quick and Roveretto I'm not giving much hope for Penny Pictures 11-4 with Johnston Rosemauve with Rocket propelled Ruby on board 10-3 Team Tassel hasn't gone over 2m4 and today is 3m but sire stats would dispel any fears over the trip. Tarixen hasn't had a run yet but this shouldn't hamper at all Rosemauve climbing 2 classes loves the going and distance. The Dark Lord may also be a contender in this race but there should be enough Pipe henchmen about to hamper and box in. 3 way dutch?. I prefer 2 way on Team Tassel and Tarixen and a saver on Rosemauve. Would dearly love to watch this on TV just to see what way the jockeys get on in running. |

Just on another note - is Cornish Rebel a jump round to win?
What price would take for a horse to jump clean a 3m chase course? 1/3 in a Novice chase? No thanks. |

This years celebration of the BULA HURDLE appears to be a fantastic renwal.
Mr Pipe,Redemtions owners do not(YET) realise they have jumped out from the Frying Pan into the Fire, has a handful with Our Vic, not here. |

As for yesterdays 1:10. What a load of bollix. My last sentence on the race was 'Would dearly love to watch this on TV just to see what way the jockeys get on in running'.
Little did I know it would go along the lines of 'Hey Quick off you go and we'll count to ten before we let anyone else go'. Hopefully that is the Jockey's christmas fund full and there will be no more need to stage such a sham. I'm smarting most because they didn't pick Tarixen @ 33's but were greedy buggers and took 50+. I only listened to it on the Radio and that was enough. Did anyone watch it and if so did it look as bad as it sounded? |

In the 2:40 at Cheltenham, Monkerhostin looks a genuine candidate to me.

Pkboy I'm not sure what you're trying to get at?
In the race that involves Redemption and Our Vic (2:40) it's hard to know who's compressing who? Is Nicholls Armaturk compressing for Thisthatandtother (11-5) It's likely Hobbs put in Farmer Jack to compress for Monkerhostin (10-2) It may be all in vain as they have compressed by association Europa to 10-3 and Murphys yard is in cracking form at present I'm leaving this one alone except for the usual small blind stake on Pipes runners for obvious reasons |

Armaturk, (Top weight), was down as a definite runner as early as last Sunday, so there would be little point in other trainers entering horses to put the weights in their favour. |

Johnd: other trainers have to bear in mind the possiblity of non-runners.

The compression horse has done his job as soon as the weights are published. After that happens he can run or not, it doesnt matter anymore.
Monkerhostin certainly looks as if its been the beneficiary of compression. (But the price looks crap to me!) |
