interesting JIB

do we count this as a selection? with Fondmort being there..as we have said..he didn't know for sure if Fondmort would run.

I think we will call it the next selection

Any form comments from anyone regarding MONKERHOSTIN?

SPOTLIGHT VERDICT: With plenty of pace likely via Better Days, Ollie Magern and Farmer Jack, any stamina or jumping flaws are likely to be exposed. Connections have had this race in mind for MONKERHOSTIN for some time and, as he can travel well off a good gallop, he may cope perfectly well with these fences.

TS etc -

130 177 Monkerhostin (10-0) 143 153 151 164 157 137 164 164 164

I read these figs as - well ahead !

Topspeed LTO - Top 3

Monkerhostin - 137

Thisthatandtother - 137

Tikram - 147

-

Tikram TS 147 - 2nd lto 29K race - 1st 43K race pen race - both at Chelt ????

I need to look at the race in detail yet. Not least because there are two Clan Muffin members running against Monkerhostin.

Have a look at 235W as well as T Easterby looks hes doing the same with County Classic compressing for Loopy Linda. However its only a class E Nov Hcp Hdl.

spotted that John but not sure about the class level as you mention.

worth keeping an eye on the lower class ones but just play the class C and above for now.

LL is fc 16/1 ..might be worth a small interest though Wink

TC - cheers, that is one of my favourites - though I do know why it is posted.

At the risk of being castigated from the forum, I have learnt something from Investor and do believe he has useful information to contribute - VDW or otherwise - and he has saved me a few bob. That is different from making a few bob, which he hasn't helped me with - but, I'm grateful for the saving.

Investor,

Regarding class. Now I think I may well be bringing wrath and hellfire upon myself here but...

Looking at the class of the horses that Armaturak beat in the "BHB rated class A" at Lingfield, I think they were actually lower than the class of this "BHB rated class B" at Cheltenham.

Okay it won, but, ignoring the BHB rating - this horse was actually going up in class not down, (relative to the horses it is racing against), with less weight.

My money was on Cenkos, well it would have been if the internet connection wasn't so shite at work - nearly 10 minutes to lay the "Czeck raider that you hinted at as being interesting" @ 2/1. Now if that wasn't a consistent horse I don't know what is - still I laid it. Value price 33/1, SP 9/4 - what is the value bet lay or back? However, I do consider myself lucky to have won that bet considering the RP race commentary had it going well in the lead before ZE jockey decided to go sight seeing!

From the RP website:

"PHILIP HOBBS is 11-4 with the sponsors to train the winner of the Paddy Power Gold Cup at Cheltenham on Saturday.

The Minehead-based handler has two leading contenders in the £110,000 showpiece event of the Open meeting in favourite Monkerhostin and impressive Aintree scorer Farmer Jack.

He is hopeful that Monkerhostin can take advantage of an attractive handicap mark in the race.

The progressive seven-year-old, who is a smart hurdler and won the Coral Cup at last season's CheltenhamFestival, is just 1lb out of the handicap in Saturday's feature after being raised for winning at Stratford last month.

"He's still 20lb lower over fences than he is over hurdles. It doesn't always work like that but I hope it is a big advantage,"Hobbs told At The Races.

"Our big decision was what was likely to run in the race and whether we needed to go up the handicap to get in the handicap, or was he better off not running.

"But it's worked out well - it couldn't be better.

"Farmer Jack won very easily at Aintree the other day and he must have a good chance as well.

"Farmer Jack is a very nice horse but Monkerhostin, you could argue, is the best handicapped."

Just thought I'd put this up for those who hadn't noticed it.

I thought that the "Armstrong" story alone - was worth - the odd 20 quid - donated to Gummys site !!

I still can't see why - the "Bloody Minded Refusal" to - "Join and Enjoy" - the "real Spirit" of the Forum !! Mad

After a closer look I'm sure Monkerhostin is a compress job. But Fondmort cant be left unbacked either.

Not sure whether it's a compressor job or a blow job in front of us, JIb, but my "VDW-type" pick is Tikram ew.

Btw, NFP, I think the Czech horse was about beat, anyway - consistent as she may be!

It does make me wonder about form figures, though. The winner will have a nice "1"now, as its lto finishing position, but it looked more lucky than impressive to me.

The pulled-up horse will have "sub-zero".

We've been told that the " common-denominator" is to be found in the way a horse finishes the last 2furlongs.
What do you conclude?
Personally, I'm fkd if I can work it out!

Investor - c'mon, good buddy! Over to you.

Monkerhostin is obviously Hobbs main hope, as Farmer Jack has no form at Cheltenham (generally a MUST for this race). Having said that it is an awful ask for a horse going way up in class and only winning by a nk last time.

I personally think this lies between Tikram and Ollie Magern, though I'm sure Fondmort will battle on to be somewhere close too.

If I was Investor, and was continually under the kosh, my perspective of "the real spirit of the forum" would not be the same as yours or mine. You may say that he's brought that on himself by after-timing. Nevertheless, his recent willingness to join in debates using pre-race 'considerations' is a step in the right direction imo.

Also, although I thought your little smilie was very funny, I have to agree with Nessie. My kids also look over my shoulder too. I wouldn't really want to try and explain that one! Eek

Sean,

I think the Czech horse was the biggest fiddle of the season. If it had been a serious attempt to win why wasnt an experienced Cheltenham jock booked? So front running, it RO! Excuse being a daft foreigner in the saddle!

The layers are laughing at everyone, the horse was never going to win, the prizemoney would hardly have covered the expenses and they would have had to sell the damn thing to get anything from the adventure.
