Yes it was a good day. Thanks.

Its been a very mixed year for me so far though but its all experience.

*** I used to always say I`d like to have Jim McGrath`s (Timeform) betting bank.

I`ve changed my mind. I think you would agree that Guest is the man.

No doubt somebody out there may say I`m a creep but I`m a big believer in giving praise when its due and Guest has certainly delivered on many an occasion ***

Cheers,

Well done today, you got me out of a hole with Birjand, hope you will give us some insight on this selection. Did you touch on this in one of your recent postings?

Determined

Glad you came out on top at Donny, sorry I wasn't more help, but we both had a result in the end, God bless Guest!
In general,

Desert Deer didn't quite make it today, but at least he ran his race, so I will persevere with chasing my own rainbows until I can make more sense of it. It was good to see so many chip in with their own thoughts on this race, and right or wrong, this kind of feedback must be useful to many of us.
Good luck for the weekend,

Johnd.

Saddad,

This horse was one of the reasons I was looking forward to going to Donny today.

Yes, he was very much on the shortlist but again actually been there today proved very useful, ie - he drifted from 11/4 to 9/2.

He was a little `difficult` in the paddock and he didn`t catch the eye going down.

In the race however in my opinion he really marked his card and with a little cut in the ground he`s one to be on before the season`s out.

Of course, the opposition he faces on the day will be important but for one who`d been of the track for such along time finishing a close 3rd against older horses carying 9-08 in a course record time wasn`t a bad seasonal debut.

If he stays 6 fur`s then more opportunties will be there for the taking.

**** the bounce factor will have to be considered also ****

Cheers,

Had a very quick look at the race you`ve put up.

Beekeeper will find the trip too short ?

Arabie doesn`t know how to be VP.

Given that the others `have no chance` its left to VP !

Easy !

*** not really ***

Cheers,

Well done with BIRJAND.

Investor
I am quite sure you mean well but you keep coming across as if I don't know what to do.
Believe me I do know what to do.
There are/were other clever men in the world besides VDW, believe it or not,

Yours

Determined/John - Glad you had some on Birjand today. All in all a good day, though my daily post mortem reveals one or two niggling mistakes. Firstly Londonnetdotcom had one/two negative/s that I overlooked. One is to be wary of horses going up in class and often up in trip and due to start much shorter in the market than last time. Different if they are proven in all aspects, but dicey if not. Also my initial view on Jardines Lookout was a downturn last time after winning a relatively soft race at a big price. But I decided to include him in the book because it was a valuable group race he won this year. 7/2 the pair was taken and in the event the class/form horse proved correct. Tough Speed was just one of those things, but I layed the fav because he was false (see my thoughts on the 2yo race above).

The method employed to find Birjand is my interpretation of the Best Bet/Next Best that VDW used to find Rivage Bleu/Arthurs Minstrel/Ever Smile/Killeshin/Travado/Valiant Warrior in 95/96. It could also have been used to find our old friend Prominent King. As always it has it's roots in class and form VDW style, but it has nothing to do with consistency or ability ratings or even speed figures. It is, I believe, also connected to the method VDW mentioned in Systematic Betting for easy cracking of the handicap.

The intent is not to tease, Barney, but this one I really am keeping to myself. I'm sure I haven't the full inner workings of it as VDW used it, but what I do have is more than enough to find plenty of horses who are really out to win. Anyone who fancies delving into it may care to consider the form of deceitful in todays race also.

Mtoto - I only use speed as a guide in much the same way as the ability rating. Look at Ringing Hills race and you will see on a speed/merit front it was well ahead, but it had the form to back this up.

In my view Tough Speeds race today was a lesser quality event than last year based on the known class and form. He seems to have his own ideas though and either his Royal Ascot or Goodwood Celebration mile form should have done the job.

Off the top of my head I think Pragmatics race involved other consistent probables who had run that season, but these bets were made early in the term.

In my opinion NORTON has been placed to win, and should be a good bet.

I haven`t looked at the race in any detail as yet but I`m of the opinion Norton is being readied for the Cambridgeshire where he is already set to carry 9-02. Winning today will incur a penalty.

A placed effort in the `C` will be worth more than todays winning prize.

Just a thought.

The apprentice riding today maybe just getting a feel of the horse. If not winning today and the apprentice riding in 3 weeks time Norton will be set to carry 8-09 (subject to a rise in the weights).

*** I may be totally wrong ***

Good luck if you play,

Cheers,
