regarding scotts view, I think it would be a brave man to put him in any of those without trying the trip out in one way or another.

If hes serious he will have to try him out sooner rather than later.

at the moment I am siding with bangalor for the cesarwich.

But as we all know its on the day that it matter's apart from The Rock of course then it doesnt seem to matter.

Which American big race does he want to win?

I think you've sussed it with SV, I may fall totally out of my tree with this one, but I think he is training it to quicken for one of the shortest straights in the country on a grade1 course. Why else would he have run it at Chester when he knew it was a laydown at York?

Has anyone had a chance to look at this race yet

Mtoto i think thats why high chaparral did not run on saturday. IT was a bit too close to this.

I think that o'brien could have learned his lesson from last year with galileo.

he should have had a run acouple of weeks ago.

it seems a bit one extreme to the other.

sakhee has a had a similar prep as he always does for the big events and must be spot on.

With so much against the rest of the field, even a half-fit Funny Valentine should be a good bet today.
Good luck

hello johnd..i think this is one to let run, with the likes of damallis/repertory,i understand your logic but 400 days off the track and better class horses, not for me but i wish you good luck

Repertory.

Best over sharp 5f, wins his races by a burst of speed mid race and then hangs on.Todays stiffish track and G/S ground against him.

Damalis.

Good handicapper, who seems to reserve his best for Chester, No doubt his trainer is running here because he is attractively weighted and he is sure to pick up some sort of prize. Has a mountain to climb on official ratings, but it is doubtful that his trainer has deliberately targeted this race on this track.

Funny Valentine.

Improving sprinter, his 3rd in the Kings Stand is much the best recent form in the race, gets in here very lightly, and the way he ran in his later races suggests today's C/D will be ideal.
Add to this that connections state that they are getting his enthusiasm back, (By running him in an easy race ), and that he is napped by Matt
Doyle, who has close links with the stable, all of which suggests he will lack little in fitness.
All in all in looks to be an excellent bet

JohnD - How can Funny Valentines run in last years Kings Stand be seen as "recent form" being some 15 months after the event ? Also, here was a case of VDWs two ways of looking at class raising some interesting points. FV had run in good class in the past, but had it shown class as a horse in excess of Repertory ?

For me the race was a no go as the class horse had a question mark over it's form and none of the others looked to have much going for them.

A much better proposition appeared in the 3.15 at Leicester and also showing how speed is no use without form. There was only one horse at the races here despite what the betting implied.

Seeing as REPERTORY won at 10-3 and that horse you don't wish to name won at 1-1 how is horse 'x' a better bet?
Cheers

I see the RP, post race analysis has echoed your pre race views.

Swish - Do you really believe that Repertory was a more certain winner than Ringing Hill ? Just because a horse you or I back wins, it doesn't mean it was a good bet. Please don't say a winners a winner.

Todays class/form horses are Alexander Three D, Mister Links, Mighty Strong and Praire Wolf. Personally I will be backing Alexander Three D and Mighty Strong only.

to quote vdw " horses like humans are not machines and a punter should treat them in this way.it is not time versus form that will allow us to assess if a horse winning a 5f sprint at ascot is better than one at warwick, but a combination of the two".give it some thought.

Barney,

I backed Tough Speed to win this race last year and the opposition this year doesn`t look as strong.

First impressions are that TS looks the one to be on tomorrow.

From memory his R.Ascot 3rd back in June would see him good enough to win here.

More later as I`m going for a walk.

Like Guest I expected Alexander Three D to win today.

I also saw Counsels Opinion as a reasonably good one today.

Any thoughts ?

Cheers,

well done with a3d
unlucky with the jumper,it just goes to show all the form study in the world cannot allow for a horse that forgets to tie its shoelaces before the off.

Tough Speed has only got his head in front twice since his two year old days; both times over 1 mile run at a very fast pace, He is unlikely to get that tomorrow.
Reluctant as I am to take on the purists, having spent 2 hours going through the form I am convinced that Desert Deer IS REALLY OUT TO WIN this race and the way things look he won't even be favourite. Should be an interesting race to watch!

i thought co a good one also the first at epsm was unbeatable by those.Unfortunately i didnt have time to do lots of races so missed alexander three d.i had a look a couple of days ago and treble heights put me off the race.

johnd,
i think that a few of these are out to win thats the problem.LOL.

like determined i think tough speed could have won lto.

the one i am drawn to at this stage is golden silica there are only one or two better than golden apples in america at that trip

nice to see some chit chat about a race though

what about duck row ? i had that a good thing last but one and the form was certainly franked on saturday
