I agree that Conquestadora has class, is in form, and goes well fresh, but is this not just the start of a Caesarawitch campaign? I think Collier Hill is a big danger, just pipped for a £20k prize at York in it's last run, and a course and distance winner, admittedly in a low class. It did however carry 9-9 over the distance. Has anyone any thoughts on Boleyn Castle in the 2.35 Newbury? |

If your `getting winners` thread is anything to go by then this has been a good day for you in the past.
A very tough day h`cap wise but I`m sure you`ve unearthed something. You`ve nothing to prove, I know that, but it would be informative for many on here if you chose to name one of your `selections` today. Not necessarily before the off of course. Hope you have a good day, Cheers, |

The 2.35 Nby` is a very tough race to call in my opinion.
B.Castle is up in opposition class today but wasn`t he impressive at Ascot ! Would have to be on the shortlist but the race is too difficult for me. I`d rather attempt the `easier` h`caps on offer today. I wish ! Cheers, |

thanks for joining in you could well be right with conq but he has took prizes on the way to better things before and the trainer looks pretty genuine.

Thanks for the reply.
I agree it's a difficult one, but Bishops Court has had a hard season and was beaten by Boleyn Castle back in June in Boleyn Castle's first race. Given 55 days off after that Ascot display can it do it again? Now shortened to 9/2 from 5/1. |

2.35 Nby,
BC goes like hell from the gate and will run all the way to the line. However, how many others in the race run the same way ? Will they `beat each up`leaving it to a hold up horse ? One hell of a race to watch but I can`t find that winner in the race. Cheers, |

The Butler/Ahern combination is very powerful and has produced some excellent winners from unfancied horses this season. I agree with Determined that the weight Conquestadora has to carry must go against her. Just a great race to watch then! Determined The race tactics will surely play a major part, and my understanding is that the going is good rather than good/firm because of watering. Will this help the hold-up BC (Bishops Court) or the 'I'll make all' BC Boleyn castle? Another great race to watch! |

i think that smokin beua and boelyn castle will set it up absolutely perfectly for bishops court

Purely my opinion, but Conquestadora and Tees Components are running here with another day in mind. Persian L is definitely at the rasces todsy.

The point I am trying to make is thst the traners of each horse knew their optimum conditions WHEN THEY ENTERED THE HORSES, and I would be surprised (and barking up the wrong tree ) if VDW wasn't aware of these factors.

Apologies if I have left anyone out,I would like to thank all of the above for their contribution to this thread.I don't really feel qualified enough on the topic to add anything beneficial, but I have learned a heck of a lot,and hopefully will continue to do so.Three Legs keep up the good work, you lighten up the thread at times.
For me today,I am interested in two horses at Down Royal, both trained by P Flynn and ridden by John Murtagh. Both sent from the extreme south to the extreme north, and a local meeting on in Cork as well.Trainer in good form to boot. The horses,Dereks Pride, and Cepangie, race times 4.30 and 5.00,I will be dissapointed if both don't win. |

The following data covers the main races at Newbury and Ayr only. Time hasn't permitted me to detail other meetings though I will be betting elsewhere.
At Cork in the 2.15 Perfect Touch looks a good bet along with Mkuzi at Down Royal in the 5.30. Two of interest regarding the "other" method are Jelba at Warwick and Court Of Appeal at Catterick but only the latter will be backed by myself. 3.40 Newbury Researched 10 32 92 52 Far Lane 10 44 105 81 Jabaar 12 73* 109* 95* Kirovski 9* 126* 114* 101* Persian Lass 8* 47 108 73 Champion Lodge 5* 114* 88 81 2.35 Newbury Bishops Court 14* 198* 132 96 Boleyn Castle 4* 184* 113 106* Needwood Blade 15 110 121 93 Agnetha 10* 263* 119 95 Smokin Beau 10* 156 134* 101 The Trader 24 99 133* 103* 3.05 Bustan 10* 93* 123* 82* Legal Approach 5* 85 105 81* Frankies Dream 10* 60 119 67 King Solomon 7* 113* 102 71 Rapscallion 12 117* 95 68 Ayr 4.05 Injaaz 10* 104* 102 77 Attache 5* 61 103 72 Impressive Fl 6* 98 98 74 Capricho 5* 177* 102 90* Croeso Croeso 6* 45 110* 81 Halmahera 12 143* 94 91* Pic up Sticks 6* 77 108* 77 2.50 True Night 3* 96* 88 76 Unshakable 4* 78 90 64 Travelling Band 7 93* 88 66 Cptn Venti 6* 39 93 73 Tony Tie 7 71 96 79* Cats Whiskers 8 49 100* 69 JR Stevenson 20 57 97* 63 Muchea 4* 155* 84 86* From these races only Bishops Court and Bustan make the grade as good things. True Night may also be taken at better than 2/1. Have a good day all. |

Determined.
Welcome back Determined,a brief resume of the book you enquired about. From the Golden Years, the following letters are printed again, Letter no's,1,2,8,13,15,24,30,35,39. This you won't believe the Roushayd example is in it twice,in full,in different parts of the book,I couldn't believe it.The rest is made up of letters written by people, some who seem to know very little about the subject. Also included is the "Myth of the missing link",from another vdw book(can't remember which),so all in all a huge dissapointment.Hope this is of some use. |

I'm not trying to tell anyone my way is better. I am just trying to say there is a different way that works as well. When I say different the basics are the same, good consistent horses with proven ability. The trouble with this game, like many walks of life. It is full of instant experts, who don't want the hard grind. A quick look and they know it all. You are going to have to explain your question re Ascot and Epsom. Yes, the 5f and 6f races at Epsom, are quicker than the races at Ascot. That's because they are down hill, but running down hill isn't always easier for all horses. After 7f the times become nearer together in fact the 12f at Epsom takes longer to run than the same distance at Ascot. That is why you need an accurate set of standard times for all courses, As for giving selections, I have tried to explain how I work on many occasions. I also have other commitments besides making a living that have to come first. It also seems a little churlish to give the results after the race, and I seldom do unless I can prove them to an independent source. Or asked for them. Determined. Yes, in the past this has been a very good day for me. Today was not such a good one unfortunately. I highlighted 4 races today Capricho in the Ayr Gold Cup at 16/1. He filled the profile I look for, and I was more than happy with him. The next race was the 3:40 at Newbury, I went with Persian Lass. I made her the c/form horse. I was concerned with Kiovski, it wasn't the weight that put me off. I was worried he had been bottomed by the very good run at York, very fast time and from a bad draw. His last 2 races hadn't been up to scratch for me. The third race was the 4:35 Ayr, in this the bet was Collier Hill. This filled the Roushayd profile for me. Part of the problem was solved when I couldn't find why Butler's horse had been off the track for so long (I had to put it down to injury). Collier Hill pasted my filters with flying colours. The last race I didn't bother with, I had made the wages for the week. If I can I like to end the week with a winner and have a clean start next week. The only other horse I looked at today was Unshakeable, nothing to do with VDW. I like this very clever underrated trainer and the vdw horses in the race made no appeal. The world and his brother must have fancied this horse, so the price wasn't up to much so I left well alone. Guest. We've all been there keep smiling :-)) Be Lucky |
