At a f/c 4/11 in my daily you would have to say it took a brave man or one who had the confidence from past experience to go against the fav, did vdw place special importance in the class of race a horse has won especially from the last 3 runs other filters permitting, & can i ask why righthand man was a bet at chepstow all those years ago?..

well what can i say apart from thank you.i had been looking at dressed to thrill and after seeing your post it only bolstered confidence.

i thought dettori gave grandera a great ride not panicking when he had to switch a furlong out and come around hawk wing, judged to perfection.

2 horses at Haydock in the later races looked to have possibilities, ie -

Attache and Dubian Gift ?

Both races I accept may not have come under close scrutiny today given the other races on offer but I thought the question was worth raising.

Not hindsight as i did actually back `A`.

Cheers,

What are a few losers, compared to a few winners at the right odds, come on, why did vdw go to the trouble to mention his staking method?.

Determined.

I don't think they would have qualified using the ability rating as used by Guest. I didn't even look at the last race. Too many runners in a 5f sprint, I'm not that brave.

However I did back Attache, I managed to get 5/1 I wouldn't have gone any lower. For me he had everything, c/form (my way) and passed the consistency filters. Others I found today were.....

Dune, again I took the 5's would have gone to 4
Landseer, backed it early, wasn't happy when the O'Brien horse failed badly in the first in Ireland.
Moving Experience
Asian Heights, could never get the price I thought would be fair.
N/R Eye Catcher not happy with the size of the field. Had decided no bet.

Hope you had a good one.

If you read the posting again, I am sure you will see why I chose this particular race.

GUEST
Well done, two good winners in Ireland, and one and an oh-so-close in England. A couple of questions if you could answer them without giving too much away.
Would Malhub have been a bet had the going been faster?
Could you give us some indication as to why you discarded Sophisticat?

Regards,
Johnd.

The reason I posted up this particular race was that I was reasonably certain that Defined was the only horsein the race that was really out to win. If you read some of my earlier posts you will perhaps see where I am coming from.

Guest what a master of the craft most people would be scared of the names hawkwing and high chaperal. I take my hat off to you.

One question, was it form or the reported bug?

JD, have been looking at the cracking the handicap thread tonight & would like to ask your opinion as to their ratings as such, would you consider that a horse 2-3 yrs old on the flat should be considered on his best rating adjusted to 9 st, think they should, but would like to ask your opinion.

Well done Guest, you also put me on to Dressed to thrill.I had it as a two horse race, but what swayed it for me,was last season DTT,finished a neck in front of S.Today she was 5lb better off,and had done nothing wrong since.
I couldn't agree with opposing Hawk Wing,I think if the Ballydoyle horses were right that he would have bolted in.I think his was an exceptional run under the circumstances. There is the possibility that he is only a miler,or perhaps even a 7 furlong horse, and that his class is getting him so close in these Group 1 races. However it is only my opinion, perhaps tomorrow we will find out more, with Rock of Gibraltar.
