Epiglotis, if you were a trainer where would you go with a horse in your care if you wanted a touch or to satisfy the owner?.

    WP,
Trainers seem very attached to the OR. If you listen to them talk you will always hear "hes off...," "shes now off...", etc, etc.
They often also refer to horses in terms of their 'distance' and the 'times' they have run. But I have never in more than 20 years of racing heard a trainer talk about a horses 'ability' or 'consistancy' rating.

John,

I can’t really be bothered to labour the point – but 2 in the last 10 years I think backs up the point I’m trying to make about the distance and the Derby, particularly when you note the number of horses that have been entered with that kind of profile. With regards to the Guineas, I’m fully aware that there are trainers that have used this route.

Walter Pigeon: It was very tasteless of me to attempt to share my unhappiness with you, I hope you'll accept my apology.

The point is that VDW's basic method was a complete method that holds true from Prominent King right through to Rivage Bleu, and not a 'mix & match' approach where you take the bits that suit you and apply them to a particular race.

"This I trust will convey the notion that what applies to one type of race does not necessarily apply to another. Indeed it is wise to give considerable time to basic research in this direction both for National Hunt and Flat races. Frequently people opinion authoritatively that it is only through form that winners can be found".

VDW's words not mine - I think you may have missed a few points along the way!
