HUNT CUP

Managed to boil it down to 4

NORTON/DUKE OF MODENA/FUNFAIR and MACADAMIA.

I might have a small interest in this one especially at these prices.

Guest
good luck with your 80% ers. Smile

Guest,
Many thanks for putting up your class/form horses for those of us following the methodology and benchmarking our progress.Working out the form horses and just as importantly the non form horse is proving enlightening.
Good luck for today and once again thank you.

Graham

I would like to echo those sentiments as it's proved very enlightening to me.In anything experience and knowledge is useful and i don't think anybody can deny that Guest posseses both where these methods are concerned.Long may it continue. Smile

Hi all,
Guest, thanks for the reply although you didn't comment on Nashaab. Its good reading your posts and a lot of people like myself find them informative.
The Hunt Cup, I have four against the field today and they are:-
Nashaab, Selective, Tough Love and Macadamia.
Hopefully some good each way prices.
See you soon, Mike.

Yes Guest, you put it up before the race, it wasnt the fav, and it won well. Well done! I was on it as well because as you know I m a big fan of Tregonnings who besides being a training genius is capable of uniting what VDW has rent asunder.

Guest,

Well done with Nayef. 4th on class/form yet a bet.

Macadamia - 14th rated on the bare ability rating but 1st on class/form. The 13 rated higher were obviously not form horses today. Now if there was ever a race for us novices to study with regards in formness maybe this is the race we should get out teeth into ?

Determined

I believe that Guest was right in identifying Macadamia as the class/form horse in the Royal Hunt Cup, though as yesterday I differ from him re the 2nd c/f. But methodologically you are on even firmer ground with studying the Righthand Man, Desert Hero etc races, where you can be absolutely SURE than the horses concerned were VDW c/fs.

I thought that Nayef today was a brilliant selection by Guest. It's a very bold call to by-pass the first three c/fs and confidently select the fourth as a bet: the mark of real experience. Although I thought I could see where Guest was coming from once he'd posted Nayef, I still couldn't see him as a backable selection against Moon Ballad which, in VDW's phrase, tells its own story.

Guest made it it clear in his comments regarding ascot,I was too hasty (again) but luckily i saw the error of my ways before the off and rectified a loss into a profit for which i thank him,my selection was of course Moon ballad but we live and learn and like i said in my post to graham hepburn the last few days have been an eye opener,But again i have learnt from it. Smile

Further to my last post,I remember last yeat (i think) Guest selected millenary And grandera to beat Hawk wing, It was quite similar to his reasoning behind nayef today,But obviously consistent form Is not just about there consistency figures as you both are perfectly aware. But at times it can prove difficult to isolate.

I agree with fulham that nayef was a brilliant selection by Guest,But it is there in the form bookIf one takes his or her time. Smile

My writing is awful i do apologise,Millenary was of course a different race to Grandera/hawk wing,I hope Guest has had a good swallow today after that performance,I have, hence my mumblings. Smile

The more I think about it, the selection of Nayef by VDW means was remarkable, though I can see that it could have been selected by others for various reasons.

Guest once responded to me on this thread to the effect that he seldom if ever went below the 2nd or 3rd c/f, and I can only think of one of VDW's examples which could possibly be comparable (and that, I think, probably wasn't). It wasn't just that Guest thought Nayef might beat the first three c/fs: it was that he thought so with sufficient confidence to back it and post it as a selection on the 80% thread. A true tour d'force.
