I didn`t have much of a look at the 2.20 at Ascot because i started with Lisaan .Top on ability and couldn`t access all the details of the form even with a specialist newspaper like the Racing Post.How do you weigh up form like this when theres no Speed figures and no comments in running. Maggsy |

regarding classified its my beleif that the vdw examples(when i get the form books)will show that there are many ways to dimiss a horses chances. midland flame wrong distance one knight for the reason class had beaten sir dorton by the same dist as rouble therfore one knight. this leaves class unoposed,if you are going to get 80% you must start looking at what cant win as well,and why they cant as vdw did. in the other race the threats of jean guy and montrayal were more significant than those 2 |

Mini Sensation looked good to me also. The only problem i could see was it wasn`t running over its best distance and going. maggsy |

Interesting situation arose yesterday when a colleague and I, who are both trying to come to terms with VDW methodology reached differing conclusions as to the class/form horse in the race, which is unusual as we usually agree.
For my part, I felt CADOUGULD the class/form horse and my colleague felt quite strongly that DULAS BAY was the class/form horse. I wonder if any of the more enlightened enthusiasts would care to give an opinion or at least a nudge in the right direction. Who was right? or, where we both wrong!!! Cheers |

Chaseform. I agree that there are sometimes no sfs for Irish races, but that was true in VDW's time as well, sometimes with no comments on running even in the case of Group 1s, eg the Irish St Leger. |

You are right in saying I favour the Roushayd method, in saying that I have adapted it to make more sense (to me). Much to the disgust of the *experts* but I think it is a much better reflection on class and ability. The improvement is judged by the speed figure, but not the ability. I don't use Top Speed I use my own figures. For me Reel Buddy was a stand out bet, see how you get on with the others. The thing to remember it is a method not a system, so apart from the improvement and drop in class there are no hard and fast rules. In saying that if, they are all up in class, so be it. I am happy to talk about it because all the figures involved are mine. What I won't do is explain in detail how those figures are arrived at. I keep to the better class races and meetings. It is the Roushayd method but I am also looking for consistent horse that have proved (to me) they have the class, and ability to win the race in question. I will be happy to answer any questions I can. It works flat and nh but I can't get to grips with the A/W, I think it's because most lack the class element. Regards |

Thanks for the reply. I will have a look at the other examples. I agree with your statement regarding the AW here is just a quick sample of the relative abiltiy ratings of a few AW horses, without naming them the figures are;
0,30,0,0,23,24,24,0,23,27,27,27,23,26,0,23,0,22,24 Just a quick sample from the week AW racing when the jumps were off. Say no more. M.O.M |

Dear Reference Point,
Yes, you are right I knew as I was typing it that you would not take up the challenge, although I am certainly willing to do it. I write to board to share ideas, banter, making friends, learning more, teaching more, (when I can) and general enjoyment, like for example in the chat room. And you write to board for.....................? Yours Swish |
