With all due respect,You have found a source of finding winners,And so have i.But they are on completely different lines.I am happy to carry on doing things the way i am because i also make money using what i interpret to be vdw's methods,Enough said really. Smile

I agree with Investor.

My selections are all consistent form horses, and to my way of thinking, the class horses in the particular race too. Yesterday's two were Ollie Magern and Harchibald (although I only backed the former).

When I found Ollie Magern, I couldn't get the bet on quickly enough! I am not a VDW expert. But I really cannot understand how people can't see the logic of it.

Epi. Regarding the Wolverhampton horse. I personally don't think that track would hold many VDW selections. I had no bets today.

i have said to investor in the past,i agree there are some logical points made in vdw,but personally,i dont think adding up form figures or prize money won are.
i find it all very systematic and time consuming.and as for vdw not betting at wolves,a 5/1 winner at wolves buys the same amount of beer as a 5/1 winner of the arc

'corse I like - any "Selection" Posted - "Before the Off" !! -

No -"problems" Razz

Only wish - Greg - would - put up - his - criteria !!

The Odds on offer - seem a damm sight better than the - Poxy odds on the "Clear" VDW selections !!

Come on "investor " - give us - before the "Off" - a "Clear" - VDW selection !!

Preferably at better than "Odds On" Razz

Hi TC

Me again. You will find that I post ALL my selections pre-race. Not usually in the depths of the VDW forum. But they are ALL given pre-race. Using some (not all) of the VDW suggestions, I have had 28 winners from my last 57 pre-posted selections (49%). And those that carried money, 22 winners from my last 44 bets(50%). Very few were odds-on, but as I use a staking plan (VDW's!) all I can't tell you is that it is making a LSP at the moment.

I write this to encourage anyone who is investigating the VDW method that I believe it does have merit. What I think it has going for it most of all is the strike rate. Personally, I hate long losing runs. They cause me to lose confidence. Alter the way I bet. And ultimately to lose money. This is my first (proper) profitable year - and I put it down to the Van der Wheil method. (Mental note: BlackCat - remember to invoice Tony Peach for PR). Big Grin

Hi Greg

Fair enough (re: form figures and prize money adding).

With regards to Wolverhampton. I agree with you (5/1 winners etc). All I am indicating is that I do not believe you can take a race at Wolverhampton, and discuss it in the light of VDW writings, as these tend to be lower grade races. That's all I meant. The horse in question was out of form in any event - all it had going for it was the ability rating apparently. What is the point of discussing it as a VDW race? It was a non-starter.

Ive been thinking about the ability rating & wondered if we only took progressive class wins from a horses win record for a rating instead.
As if a horse goes on to win a lower class race than previous wins ive seen it said that it can actually reduces the ability rating.

Quote:As a three-year-old Roushayd ran eight times, Winning three times.
Class ratings were progressively 12 over an extended im 3 furlongs, 39 over im 4f and 641 over im 4f.
Raced also in class 9 over one mile 2 furlongs and class 604 over im 6 furlongs and note that he was out of the first three both times.

thanks for the compliment tc
funnily enough a mate of mine asked exactly the same thing the other day over a few beers.
tc,its all to do with feel there are no set rules, this is not a dig at vdw,but i dont think you should get tied down by sets of rules, and it does help by specializing on a certain area of racing,i can usually look at the 5 day entries and tell a horse will run a big race, without having to check form, because i get to know the horses through a season.

Hi Greg
That is interesting. I have thought about the area of specialisation, and I think the VDW does just that - if you follow his better class races only, you are specialising - in better class racehorses. (btw, I don't).

Hi WP
Sorry, I don't really have a view on that. When I use the AR (which is rare) I do take account of each horses best win.

Hi TC
Think you may have mis-read my post. I wasn't asking you if you liked selecions posted pre-race. I was telling you that my selections WERE posted pre-race. As Ectoo would say: "come on chap. Sharpen it up a bit! Smile

greg -

know what you say !!

A little effort in the area that you specialise in, does produce - Results !!

Speed figs - I like !!

-

However -

I still enyoy the "Barbaric" sport of "Chasing" -

I feel that - it is the "Ultimate" goal - for "Any Horse" !!!

at - the lower levels - "Dutching" is the only way to go - you cannot rely on a single horse - experience is "LACKING" !!

But - in the "BIG" - Handicap Chases -

"There" - you have a real " Challenge" and if you want to put your "understanding" - on the line -

"Select a Horse " - a"Name It "" Big Grin
