Thanks again, Swish.
About two or three weeks ago, I tried e-mailing you to thank you privately. It didn't get thru but bounced right back. I was a bit silly really, bc I can thank you in public! After all, this is where you told me THE important factor. I've just been reading Jo Tagach again. He says, in forty years of punting, he never met one pro-punter who didn't use speed figs in some way, as part of their approach. Btw, I think I've twigged the Voodoo missing link tonight! At last, I spotted the numbers I've been expecting: 666. The devil's own! Heeelp! I'm outa here!! No time to collect my hood and cloak. |

Thus hotmail e-mail is often sh***. I know because it often does not work. I like talking to JohnD but no e-mails appear to work (either way). By the way I have met JohnD (nice fellow) and JIB (also nice fellow). These blokes know what they are talking about, so does Mtoto. (IMO) |

I remember a good while back,I mentioned Master Brutus being the reason that vdw left kenlis (but no comment was passed)Do you share this view? ![]() |

Investor,
No not really, he was left because CVDW was a master of the Dark Art of Temperament. Mostly, I suspect for the same reasons as Castle Warden and River Rhine. |

Temperement is one of my downfalls,But i seem to do o.k by it lol.I have looked at many many races in the form books from so many different angles.Do you believe that vdw stuck religiously to his criteria for selecting races from different meetings and if so was that the message in your last post. ![]() |

Do you consider backing odds on has no VALUE at all,Or do you concieve that Barracouda wasn't worthy of the price on offer "oR" was he too short. ![]() |

Investor,
On the 3/5/79 CVDW was quite precise about about his position. He only selected six horses to follow for the entire season, these he claims, returned many times the annual salary. If he "drew" that much, I cant see the point of CVDW making adhoc bets here and there. The methods he gave were to help us aquire temperament. |

Investor,
I do back horses occasionally at odds-on, however, there are certain stonewall requirements that the horse and the race have to fulfil. |

Some background information.
The Prix Royal Oak, up until 1978 was the French equivalent of the St Leger. Royal Oak was one of two horses imported into France in 1830, The other being The 2000 guineas winner Ibrahim. Royal Oak was not a Classic race winner, but had won 11 races ranging from a 5 1/2 furlong handicap at newmarket to a 2/12 mile weight for age race at Chesterfield, between the ages of 2 and 3. Royal Oak proved to be an outstanding stallion for the fledgling French breeding industry and sired four French Derby winners the last being Poetess In 1841. Who was an outstanding broodmare as she enabled her progeny to go out and win some of the English Classic races. In 1850, the winner of the Derby and St Leger, was exported to France for £4000, The Flying Dutchman, who had won the Derby and St Leger in 1849 and who had beaten Voltigeur(1850 derby and St leger winner) in the greatest match in Racing History. Most of the early classic French winners owe their ability to these two bloodlines |

Investor,PKBoy,
Did VDW actually say that Kenlis wasn't taken,he did say he was the only genuine forecast fav,and I assumed a bet as well. |

Pipedreamer,
CVDW stated that: "The spade work is all complete and it can be seen that there is a possible winner for each race. Providing a reasonable price can be obtained Little Owl will be taken because it is a racing certainty. Sunset Christo will also be taken as it is almost a certainty, but the rest will be left alone. WHY?......" Have you not got The Golden Years? |

The same procedure shows Kenlis to be a good thing, but note how the relative ability of the whole field is like a blanket, also note the penultimate race of Turk, last of seven, made no show and beaten out of sight. Calculate the performance as 10 when totting up previous form figures. So far this is the only genuine forecast favourite.
Kenlis won 11/4 Hereford 2.15. Not an inspiring race, but easy to find the winner Wild Gamble 11/2 using the same procedure and once again a genuine forecast favourite. The spade work is all complete and it can be seen there is a possible winner for each race, but once again the odds must be weighed. Providing a reasonable price can be obtained Little Owl will be taken because it is a racing certainty. Sunset Christo will also be taken as it is almost a certainty, but the rest will be left alone. Why?, go back to the beginning and you will find it all tied up with temperament and odds. |
