All,

My suggestion that Funfair Wane is in form in hindsight does look rather pathetic given that he has finished 12th of 13 and last of 8 in his last 2 races.

No I haven`t been drinking.

Lets just say I`ve had a mad half an hour.

Three questions regarding your tables if I may.

What is the %age figure that you show on your tables?

Also the 101A, 101C, 100C etc?

Finally the (g). Is this represent going conditions on the day?

nessie,

why is titurals 101a better than rainwasheds 103a and subsequent 106c?

Before titurels 101a he was only a 101c

just because they have not tried does not mean they are not able does it?

Look where the 3 non runners were drawn.

Each of these horses were on my list of ones to keep an eye on and it will be interesting where they are all sent next time out.

The bookies will now be v anxious to be rid of that 4th place with a draw bias like this one. Berry could do well for himself here!

Chaz,

2:30 Bev.

I make Danger Over the BEST HORSE in the race. (To be the best horse in my terms it's be the highest class horse that is in form. I have stopped calling my horses c/form because it can cause confusion with other people's c/form horses. My rating only rates horses if they have shown form in the class of the race, or above. Unlike some who work on a relative format). Draw a big worry, (don't understand why Guest worries about weight, but doesn't seem to think draw can be important. Apart from Dragon Flyer the form horses are drawn low, don't think this course will suit DF. No bet unless the price on Danger Over gets silly, 6, 7/1 would tempt.

2:45 Ling

Yes I have Huja as the BEST HORSE. However I would be surprised if he was a bet for me. I don't expect the price to be suitable, I would want 3/1 or better.

3:45 Ling.

I don't like this race. I have it very close between The Bonus King and The Lord as CLASS horses. Neither are in form, and I think both MAY be flattered, and the class element suspect. The consistent horses haven't proven themsleves in this class YET. Bonus, and Move It are both very close to achieving form in this class, but neither will be carrying my money.

I find today's racing a bit disappointing from a betting point of view. Just hope there will be some good pointers for the future.

Be Lucky

Barney VDW said class was kingpin and he viewed class related to prize money. Look at the prize figures. 101c is 101 postmark but in relation to the prize. I turned this to a %. Compare with last 3 ave (k) and ability(k) and form rating.

It is very interesting.

Don't forget the last 2 furlong comments these are also very important but I cna't fit those in as well just yet.

Mtoto,

Many thanks for your post, which was pretty much as I thought. Unlike Guest I happen to think that Danger Over will be inconvenienced by the draw. Huja is on my list of 2yo’s to follow at 3yo and I have backed him at about 13/8.

Dont let the "experts" put you off Determined. They might be nicer to you than some of us others but they are costing you dear. Well done with Funfair W!

re the 2.45, this was not a race I looked at before the off, as I focus on handicaps which have kept me busy enough today, but I had a look at it afterwards in the light of your post.

If I'd looked at the race earlier I certainly wouldn't have selected, still less backed, the winner, as I can't see it as a form horse, despite the much higher class in which it has been running of late.

But of the form horses, from a VDW perspective surely Entrap was a clear selection over Huja, being markedly higher on both the standard ability rating and the time/merit check for these early/mid season 3yos (whether one uses Split Second's ratings, as I do, or Topspeed's). Clearly you saw it differently, and I'd be interested to know how you selected it from the VDW perspective.

Fulham,

I’ve been doing things a little differently lately after some discussion with Mtoto, so it wasn’t a selection that wouldn't fit the way you are doing things. I very rarely back horses first time out and this one reminded me why!

Mtoto,

Did you look at Mr Baxter Basics today?

Thanks.

Everytime I try some modification of VDW, or go against his main precepts, I end up regretting it, as with failing to back Hug's Dancer. (Yes, Investor, it still smarts, despite other buses having been along since.)

Exactly the point I keep asking you. Why bother with VDW when you can double your bank every month without it? No one else on this thread using VDW can do that. Or were you telling porkies when you said that you doubled your bank every month?

nessie,

those winners were available for backing by just blindly taking the horse with the highest ability rating as was Franklins gardens also.

I'm intrigued by your comments " Bonus and move it are very close to achieving form in this class" to my mind they were 1st and 2nd c/f there was nothing else that came into the equation,Bonus had improved no end from when last meeting Move it,Which was again evident in the horses s/f. Confused
