consider the three most consistent ratings from the first five or six in the betting forcast.

If you then fail to find 80 - 85 % winners "then evaluate your reading of form"

Is Johnd right then?

Epiglotis,

Sorry you are going to have to put that in English. I think I know what you mean but don't want to answer until I'm sure. Wink

Boozer,

I think people are dazzled by the apparent simplicity of the factors that VDW told us to apply.

the consistency rating alone is a powerfull tool and few realise that it points to consistent form.

Ask yourself this,

horse A ability rating 571
horse B ability rating 53

both horses have consistency figures of 222.

Which is more likely to be in form and which is more likely to be out of form?

I think this in large measure goes some way to explaining why lots of consistent form horses are relatively low down in the ability ratings list and why they are the first for consideration.

RE johnd

I know that he is very good at understanding form and its permutations. It does not explain all the examples that I have so far looked at

There are only two people who have stated Unambiguously that their way fits all VDW's examples looked at.

They are guest and fulham

EPI,

IT's funny how people see things differently. neither you or I know exactly how much fulham is giving away on here.

From what I can see in his postings I am 2 yrs behind on research and 10-15 in practical application

Barney,

Life has just begun so they tell me.

I`ve been spoilt by the family but what I really wanted was a book titled ` MAKE HIM UNDERSTAND VDW `.

Maybe that`s my Christmas present,

Cheers,

Thanks for your replies the other day.As regards Adiemus/Parasol,a bit of confusion,in the wording,I think.
Investor/All
Lingo to my mind, was a vdw type, but on the same day,I thought Highland Shot, was stronger, any views on that one.

Investor,

You may be right, can we take it your now putting money down?

My basis for stating that he should not have been supported by any vdw'ers, note supported not considered, Is taken from the merce cunningham illustration.

"Many would plunge in and this time just save their bacon, but it is still flouting the odds Which is a cardinal sin"

Merce cunningham had been dropped and was twice as good a bet as lingo but was still left.

ps I am fully aware how far behind others I am and believe me when I say to you that it will get more complicated before it gets easier.

In the main the discussion on this thread is about hcps, fair enough.
However if anyone agrees with Barney and Epiglotis that speed figures and OR's are rubbish in non hcps you had better not back any that are first 4 in the betting then. Just pick 12-1 and above outsiders in non-hcps. I am sure you will have some marvellous winners.

About one every 3 months
Cheers
