All of which may or may not be true, but I don't see you offering much to the discussion

R.e Iris royal To my mind this horse was the danger to joly bey,Had form in better class i know,But last 3 runs not very impressive,Had been dropped from class 230 to 108 to 50 finishing 2nd in all 3 going up again today,Joly Bey ran very dissapointing considering,He was going so well then dropping away so tamely,You know how to read form so i won't go into it with J.B The market got it right,But i would not have backed iris royal Today,I know you said most likely Winner,But on it's present form i would have to disagree.

I agree with much of what you say re Rasko and all of what you say re Iris Royal. But with those two in the field I thought you were brave to go for Joly Bey. I found myself in the same position as Rob - unable definitively to discard 50% of the field.

Rob,
since when did you ever have to have a replacement idea to tear down one that doesn't add up,(see wonderful selections as posted earlier on the walk on water VDW).

If you considered that all might not be well with Young Ottoman as he finished distressed a fortnight ago and suspected that Joly Bey didnt stay the 3m then Iris s Gift was v good value at 9/4.

I was maybe a bit hasty with joly bey,But in the context of that race i thought the horse would prevail,Just going of the subject,Paco Venture Won quite convincingly,I didn't mention this one,But nevertheless this horse had an 84% chance of winning this race as i see it Had the ground been different i would have classed this as a cert,Have a good look my friend.

Interesting results so far considering all that has been posted on the thread today.

I didn't mention the novice chase at Newbury earlier, but I was on the fence a bit as to if Iris Royal was in form. If he was then he was the class/form horse, but I wouldn't have had a penny on Joly Bey who has only won a mickey mouse race in this country over shorter.

A bit harsh,Did you not consider finishing second in a A Grade chase Class 174 a decent performance Iris royal had been dropped a long way from 208 to 50 and now going back up,I'm sorry Guest but i wouldn't have touched I.R,Jumping forward to Lord Moose Something you mentioned the other day,Should have set warning lights off NOT PROVEN IN H/CAP COMPANY WITH THE WEIGHT,Silly me.Weight of opinion also matters doesn't it guest wink

Sorry to intrude on this thread fellas but I look in occasionally and read it to see what's happening. One persistent criticism I see on here is that people talk after the race about what they thought and so on and not before. Yet again it happens:

"Paco Venture Won quite convincingly,I didn't mention this one,But nevertheless this horse had an 84% chance of winning this race"

Not having in any way looked at this horse or the race in question it may well have had an 84% chance of winning but saying so after the event is totally meaningless.

I could easily say I thought Joss Naylor had a 90% chance of winning that race but unless I said so beforehand it would be completely pointless.

No criticism intended, by the way, just an observation.

Yes your right,I should have posted this up before the race,It was without any shadow of a doubt a two horse race,But unfortunately i didn't give it the same consideration as the other selections,If you read my post again,It was the ground that prevented it being a cert ( in my opinion) therefore i didn't put it up,Although now looking back it would have been a far better bet than the others smile

My point was, if Iris Royal was seen as in form then as the highest rated on ability, he was the class/form horse in the race. JB was placed in a better race, but so has IR in the past. In fact IR has done more than that hence the ability rating.

What was it VDW said about a hen laying an egg in a pig pen would not see a swine hatching from it?

If you look very very closly at your two today you will find that JB is on the same exploration curve as IR has just been on. When they have failed the trainer needs to put "a bit more in". If you look both these horses are being treated the same way. one is ready, one is work in progress. JB needs to be watched very closely next time, has he had enough put in? or will he go for a bit more.Horses each require different things to bring them "to the boil" it happens that these two need the same.Dont fall into the trap of thinking that all "so and so's" horses will be produced using the same techniques, all horses are individuals and should be treated as such.
