Good stuff, Swish!

Right up my street.

Like you said, if we all put as much energy into targeting these 2/1 value place shots as we do into quarrelling about things that cannot be settled, I expect we could put up some selections that might get in the Gummy top ten - judged on positive returns.

Handy for the Christmas ( next year, I guess).

Swish -

The two that stood out today - were

Parsons legacy - not within your 2/1 rule

but the other -

Irelands Eye - most definatly was Big Grin

Investor,

which of TC's winners are you chatting about?

I don't think his " bollocks selections" are the ones you should be fretting about.

Personally, I always try to get 3 or better ( ie 2/1 and up) on my Betfair place bets.

If they don't get matched, then, tough. There's always another race.

What I've found unprofitable is backing 2/1 shots win only. I don't make a success of this, so they're the bets I've cut out.

T.c is under the mis apprehension that he can make a long term profit at them type of prices even placing.Today he got dragged out the shit by irelands eye so he actually would have made 3.2 points profit on the day for an outlay of 12 points.Which isn't a bad return. But he's still in loss from yesterday."total Bollocks" is a very apt title.Horrible bastard aren't i.It's just that when someone is continually chasing your backside you have to give them a bit back. What do you make of his selection method, though?

Is it as complicated as Swish's?

I think you'll find Aceishigh does alright with shortish priced winners to place.

Btw, you told us that VDW was punting for thirty years before he wrote in the paper. Did he have a different name in those days?

Also, could you tell me where he was stationed during the war?

Pipe is a bit like D Nichols -

When he goes in "Mob Handed" in these big Handicaps - why not back "All" his runners - chances are that he is going to "Pull a Stunt" and one of his big outsiderswill come in Big Grin

This is from Pipes website

Korelo, Penny Pictures, Tarxien, Quick,

Team Tassel, Roveretto & Rosemauve

Cheltenham 1.10pm

We have seven of the 17 runners in this race, which is the easy, but try and sort the winner out! My three against the field would be the improving Team Tassel who is unbeaten in two starts under rules. He won here last time out on the Sunday of the Open Meeting. Timmy Murphy rides and the pair are forecast at 100/30. Rosemauve has the services of Ruby Walsh and Penny Pictures may have a small chance with Richard Johnson on board at the forecast 8/1. I wouldn't like to say what would win!

I WOULDN'T LIKE TO SAY WHAT WOULD WIN lol i bet they knew

TC,

Why do you want my viewpoint? You have your own and in the end that is all that is important, anything I have to say could be mistaken for sour grapes or what ever.

My thinking is if Pipe knew which one why run 7? That fact that this one won doesn't prove it was planned in any way. However it makes one feel good to think that it was the plan all along, and you backed it. I think it was available at 200/1 on the exchanges and I did notice it paid only 34/1 on the Tote. So someone somewhere thought it was in with a chance.

I put the pen straight through the race and didn't look at it in any detail, something I often do with races Nicholes goes into mob handed. I'm still not interested in trying to second guess trainers. So looking at it now I have to say the way I work I wouldn't have been interested in the 3 shortest priced of Pipes in this race. Three of the Pipe runners are on my list of horses that have reached my par for class, the winner, Korelo, and Tarxien. Of these the winner was the lowest rated and not proven in this class.

All I can do is congratulate you on finding the winner.

Be Lucky

Mtoto

no congratulations needed -

it was just a "daft" - Fun - Spin Wink

Do you never - try one ???

I do think tho that - "Trainer Intentions " are a very neglected area of VDWs writings !!

boozer - Nicols is not as "Crafty" as "Pipe" Big Grin

but - Ayr Gold Cup - his fav Race -

"Funfair Wane" - !!!!!!

-
12 runners ?? - Yes , I lost 12 quid on that as well Big Grin

Mtoto - I had - Korelo, and Tarxien.rated as you claim - BUT !!

I had a fairly good day with my Lingfield bets today ( Sat, December 18).

Checking the 8 winners, I find

only one had a " consistency figure" ( sum of last 3 finishing positions) of more than 20 ( 23 , in fact).

Four were under 12.

None of this was part of my selection method.

Looking at Windsor results, I see

3 winners were 12 and under, and all were under 20.

I didn't include the 6th race, a bumper, as most runners hadn't run three times.
