Young Joker as you state looks a winner in a race. Stable now showing some form which can only enhance his chances.

I didn`t know T.Peach was writng a.n book. I wonder if he`ll disclose further VDW methods, etc.

I notice you napped Ravenswood yesterday. Young Scuadamore did very well to get him home because he looked a difficult ride.

Cheers,

Barney/Guest,

They are certainly ones for the note book. Having finishing close behind the class/form horse on level terms I'm sure the respective connections will be looking to capitalise on the form before the season's out. Bar a couple of minor places Fadalko hasn't yet earned his keep this season and it'll be interesting to see where they place him next.

Barney,

No, they can't be place higher but there's still some money to be won in the time that's left. Note where Fadalko was sent after last years Melling Chase. Obviously it will all depend on the oppostion and conditions but they are both worthy of a watchful eye.

Grand National day then and the big race class horses are a strange bunch. Ad Hoc has class and stays very well, clearly having his campaign geared towards the Spring as last year. His last race at Cheltenham after a break showed him to be nearing his time, though not conclusive evidence. Beau has one good effort back in Nov at Cheltenham though not against much opposition and has also had a significant break. Of those currently in form Alexander Banquet has the highest ability rating followed by Blowing Wind. Various crosschecks don't shed too much light and I'd make no selection. For what it's worth if somebody twisted my arm I'd make a book with Ad Hoc,Beau and Blowing Wind, but of course their not.

In the 2.55 the class/form horse is Bilboa. The course probably didn't suit last time, but a very good run nonetheless and previous form is very good in context also. A winner at the meeting last year, very consistent and the distance shouldn't prove a problem given the opposition. A good bet.

The 2.20 has conflict as Fondmort with highest ability rating finished lame in the Arkle behind Seebald 2nd on ability rating. Checking the form, Seebald may have the edge and he was favourite (albeit a false one) at Cheltenham behind Moscow Flyer. No bet for me though.

In the opener at 1.45 Benbyas is class/form with The Gatherer 2nd c/f. However there is a ton of conflict in the race and it will probably go to a horse with unexposed form such as The Dark Flasher or Lisaan. No selection.

No argument over the class/form at Lingfield in the 2.10 with Castle Gandolfo but not a bet at the price.

At Hereford the main race is very poor. Young Joker in 3.05 does look a good thing though as the class/form horse in the race. Obviously a silly price would not be taken.

Bilboa then and possibly Young Joker at better than odds on.

Determined/Guest,
I am in broad agreement with your views although I would have given Seebald a bigger chance. Bilboa looked a very good bet at 5/1 but it was not to be in his case either.

Hello All,

hope you and yours are well and happy.

Yesterday I read Systematic Betting from cover to cover. Then I read it again. It's a great book and Betting the VDW way which incorporates some of the chapters does not do it justice.

I think JIB did an interesting appraisal of the book. But I was wondering if the chapters were written in the manner the subject matter should be applied. Dutching reserved even cautious, Winner in a Race in a positive way.

The most interesting was the conclusion naming numerous methods such as the easy cracking of the handicap. It made the mouth water. What a pity VDW didn't write that second and subsequent books.

All the best

Mactheknife - yes Carbury Cross was a form horse last week. Consistency has nothing to do with being in form. His last run told us he was in form.

Well just one bet taken yesterday but it was not to be. No complaints, she came there to win her race, but stumbled end of story. Young Joker was always odds on and left. Fate intervened and he also stumbled with his race won. Castle Gandolfo was always going to be odds on, though it has to be said the eventual sp was surprisingly generous in context. I've seen many a worse 2/5 shot.

3 out of 5 on the week then. Not a bad week all in all.

Something worthy of note regarding the big festivals is the amount of reversals that occur from big meeting to meeting. It's well worth looking into.

anyway,

retrospectively,I only found one good thing today although after consideration didn't take it on, i must be getting the hang of this temperament thing.

taranaki, showed class LTO but in a low class race, no SF but a fast runner, lots of weight off against not much oposition.

ANY comments.
