Hello Lee,
If you are going to have a challenge and it involves money could you please do so in private and not on the forum. If it is just a friendly challenge with no money changing hands then that is fine. Gummy |

First of all welcome to the forum, you obviously know something of vdw going by your user name.
I always look at the racing post ratings the old post mark ratings, but just as a guide, they can be quite informative, but unfortunately it is only one small step. |

To all.
When there is something to be found in the "better quality races" it is easy enough to spot these types. Is'nt it annoying that it is the Handicaps that we have trouble with. There can be only one reaon why this is the case though, because it is not being done properly by most of us. This message has been edited. Last edited by: not_g_hall, |

Pipedreamer,
In (1), I meant the three most consistent from the forcast, as with BL-3,PK-5,MK-3,using VDW's figures from letter 13, a 97% chance that the winner would come from those three horses. As the title of that second letter suggests "Narrow the field to gain winning strip". |

Barney's running in the 4:20, all the horses will be limited to their hind legs and dressed as wasps.

Barney.
Your explanation in your last post to Pipedreamer seems clear. I assume that after the procedure that you have put forward, it is then that the 'subject to other considerations' part comes into play (form & ratings support), concerning only these three. However, there is a scenario that comes into the picture by way of there being 4 or 5 horses that are in the first three on consistency, how is this particular problem solved?. For an example, Curragh 3.15 (Sun) this came up (4 horses) and I found it almost impossible to deal with. Although everything appeared to line up for one particular horse, I did not have a bet. Do "they" ever run 6 legged races in which pairs of horses have two legs (each) tied together?

One approach to VDW might be to eliminate all the contradictions and mathematical fictions and see what's left.

not_g_hall : VDW was conspicuously ignorant of basic probability.

VDW example, a bet in the National, the author was probably a booky.
