    The Place Of The Skull
    Fulham,
I am pleasantly surprised that you agree that the VDW method has crucified itself. I had thought that you would have played down its painful demise in the hope that the less attention that was drawn to it, the more the dignity of its once miriad adherents would be preserved.
However I feel that your optimistic belief in its ressurection is misplaced, as the only two recorded examples have unfortunately been reserved for the divine.

Presumably for Australian tennis, after Philippoussis bottled it today?

What I find most difficult to recolcile with my own attitude with is the insistence that VDW is exemplified as a succuss when even the merest neophyte can see that you are losing money, you cant find winning horses. If you refuse to acknowledge your sickness how the **** do you expect to be cured?

Every day, discounting races comprising horses having their first runs, there are twelve to thirty or more VDW class/form horses. Whether one makes money or not depends first on one's methodological ability to identify the c/fs, and second on one's ability to be selective.

You have no idea whatsover about any VDWer's bets, with the possible exception of Guest and Johnd, and you don't know, and I don't know, how many of the selections they've been putting up on the "80%" thread they've backed, or indeed what other bets they have placed but not posted. So why don't you stop talking out of your backside.

    Can do better
    Fulham,
Much as it must hurt, I dont think this is the moment to try and enlist the help of unknown mystery punters who are using VDW to make money.
Try and step back a pace or two and you might get a better view of the situation. Imagine you were reading the defence of people who had chosen the PM1 or TS1 instead of the c/f1.
Without wanting to be cruel about it, it needs to be said that your method does not work. It doesnt even get close. Like an aging comedian it has now become embarrassing. All that is left to cover the deception are its remnants of grace and dignity, which will not survive further extravagant posturings.

Assuming the prices don't become too short, any selection that is given on the 80% thread by respective posters i would hope is being backed by them.

The new International level at which Group operates - means that VDW's measure of "Class" - is now irrelevent !! - Take Choisir - Dalahlani - Hawkwing - Alamsher -Airwave - Fabrav.

All raced in different countries with Different Prize money at stake .

How do you compare performances from Hong Kong
, Ireland,Japan,France,England, USA -etc

My last response to Epiglotis applies equally to your post - and to you.

Incidentally, Easter Sunday was late this year - 6 July, not 20 April as the diaries suggest.

Andrew

That is a reasonable supposition, but I don't know, and I am sure Epiglotis and JIB don't know, which of their "80%" horses Guest and Johnd actually backed. I would be surprised if they'd all been backed, for the reason you suggest: some went off very short compared to, for example, Post forecasts. More to the point, what reason have we to suppose that, whichever of the selections were backed, they were Guest and Johnd's only bets?

But the more fundamental point is that VDW's main approach is not a system, like the one for which Delboy puts up qualifiers, it is an approach that can in principle be applied to almost any race. It is the individual's understanding of that approach, and his or her ability to apply it appropriately selectively, that determines how successful they are. Epiglotis and JIB's comments simply, once again, reveal how little they understand about VDW.

Tuppenycat

VDW faced the same problem, with Irish and French form to be taken into account. He managed, and we manage still. That said, it is not much of a problem in the kind of races I concentrate upon: class A and B handicaps, 6f and upwards. Those who know how to isolate the c/f will know it is unusual for it not to be placed, at least: as was again the case in all three of the class B handicaps this Friday/Saturday.

    St Helena
    Fulham,
With your hands clasped behind your back do you pace up and down searching the horizon for your mystery punters to come and restore you to your rightful position?
If muttering curses lightens your lonely vigil please feel free to continue I am sure we will come to understand their rancourous charm.

In view of the fact that so much backbreaking toil goes into unearthing the dross, it seems appropriate that Van Der Wheil is an anagram of a hewn drivel.

I don’t think it is the temple that has closed so much as the disciples have been found wanting. I doubt if the man himself would have expected the blind unchanging obedience that has been shown on here.
