Fulham - I could see only one slight negative for Cornish Gale on Friday and considered him a good bet at reasonable odds. However I was not concerned about the distance given the others in the race. There were 3 class/form horses on Friday at Ascot that I considered should win but I only put money on two of them.

Once again today at Ascot the class/form horse was dominant. I'll leave it for you to isolate which horses they were.

Have a good Christmas everyone.

in the race that roushayd won

its last three form figures,
its days since ran,
its market position,

are all seemingly at odds with the numerical picture.

were any horses in the race qualifyers ?

Hello Maggsy,
In the Shooting Light race, I had that horse and Ad Hoc as having virtual equal chances but chose Ad Hoc because S.L. had never done the distance. I was wrong then!

Image de marque seemed to have alot going for
it.The other 2 had no ability rating and imagedeMaeque was being dropped in class and had
less weight.Have i missed something?
The problems i see with Tarxien is that it was being
raised in class and it didn`t achieve it best
sf last time out.

For a long time I thought last run was most important (and perhaps still is in NON-HCPS) but Mtoto has shown me that is not the case in Hcps, last three runs matter or, sometimes, even further back, also, using my method, the ratings were almost identical,

I am not for a moment suggesting that Ad Hoc was a bet in the 2.00 on Saturday, but if you think Shooting Light had better ratings (assuming you mean VDW ratings), you need to read his articles more carefully. Ditto Image de Marque on Friday.

By heck you know some stuff Mr. Fulham, I give people winners based on good old VDW, CAN YOU?
Merry Christmas,
Swish
p.s. I have not seen one so far. Mtoto has posted up a stream of winners he got (albeit in the past) but they are there for anyone to examine, I also have done the same, so where's yours then?

Mr Fulham,
Tommy Trinder, Johnny Haynes, Mr. Harrods, you are quite new to this board. What do you think of Tony Lovatt then, the naps champ, (have you seen the table?). I don't think he follows VDW (although I do!), He can pick winners better than any of us, and he lays them on the line BEFORE the race. Can you do that? Do it then!
Merry Christmas

Anyone who has put significant effort into studying VDW's articles knows full well that he has left us much to be discovered through our own efforts, from some sometimes rather briefly expressed "clues".

From my perspective, the principal benefit of a thread like this is educational - learning from one another as we try more fully to understand the thinking of a man whose expertise in reading the Form Book far exceeded most of ours (myself most certainly included).

I've benefitted greatly already, for example through one of Guest's hints, I've been able to solve one of VDW's puzzles that has troubled me for the better part of twenty years. And his comment on Cornish Gale was also very valuable.

If individuals want to put up their VDW selections, good luck to them. But that, for me, is not where the potential value of this thread lies, and I set out my view on that matter in reply to Pazuzu at 10.23am on 1 December.

i've just re-read the whole thread and the mising link is pointed out by 4 different people and how it is applied by 3.

This is far more information than vdw ever gave and if you cant see it READ WHAT IS HERE ON THIS THREAD.

Hello Swish

I have done research on a database that shows
that most of the time lto form is the most
important.Although there maybe a good reason
for a poor run last time out if for example
the horse was outclassed or had a bad draw.
I do think you have to look at the last 3 runs
or even further back but i would put more
weight on the last run.I use ratings from the racing post. These put shooting light in front.
VDW used his own ratings but he also used ratings
that i think were from the Daily Mail.

regards

Hello Fulham

The ratings i`m talking about are speed and
collateral ratings.Ad Hoc did have a better
ability rating but wasn`t a form horse.
As for Image de Marque he was the only one
who had an ability rating and the best form rating.
Speed and collateral ratings also put him infront.
Am i missing something?

regards
