pipedreamer,

based on whats shown in the rp.

its first outing showed some class but at a low leval on firm ground, when upped on its subsequent runs its form deteriorates to the point where(in mho)the trainer feels that it needs a run over a longer trip to get a bit of sparkle back.compare that to gb warwick run. There is a world of difference.A lot like sophisticats american run.

hope this helps

Pipedreamer,
Following on from what Barney has just said, Decoy was carrying 15lb more in actual weight (8-1 to 9-2) as well as 6lbs more on the ORs after his last run. While Decoy won over 2m at Warwick, was it certain he would stay over an extra 2f at Chepstow carrying all that extra weight? Galleon Beach had high class form for J. Hills a couple of years ago but had gone sour. He was moved to A. Streater and on his second run showed form at Pontefract over 7f carrying 9-9 OR 65. Its now up to the trainer to plan the right race for him. He then goes to warwick over 19f and stays on, then he goes to Pontefract over 17f for an 8k race and stays on again, also recording his best speed figure of 105 according to split second. He is now dropped to a 3k race, is fully fit, has proved he can carry the actual weight and has also been dropped from 65 to 62 in the ORs. Thats a lot of positives for Galleon Beach ADDED to the negatives for Decoy. All things considered Decoy ran very well and was only just caught right at the end.

Hi Barney,

I find it interesting that both you and Mtoto made Patsys Double the C/F horse in this race whereas I made Proud Boast the C/F horse (with negatives).

Can I ask if you made Patsys the C/F because he had more class than Proud Boast or because you didn't rate Proud Boast a 'form horse'.

Cheers

And there was me thinking you were a real smart cookie, never mind we`re only human.

To edit or delete your post up to 30 mins after posting, click on the icon at the top/right of your posting on the date/time line. It looks like a match sticking out of a box.

Don`t worry, there`s no trickery employed here, no mystery, your computer won`t blow up in your face, I`m not half clever enough for that.

LOGICIAN must surely be worth attention in this 2m class 67 hcap chase. 2nd of 6 last time in class 174, brought down at the first in the National, and before that 4th of 18 in a class 390 at Cheltenham. The trip is right, the going's no problem(winner on firm and soft). Has been off the track 70 days, but won first time out last season. I just hope the 3/1 f/c in the Racing Post turns out be right.

Apologies for going over old ground but I’ve just noticed a couple of questions that Crock asked a while back which hopefully I can answer.

In Letter 19 (Golden Years) VDW gave some pointers on how to go about making a list of horses to follow whereby you note those that had two form placings in their last two outings in the previous season with one win ie. 21, 31, 12, etc., and at least two wins over the period. This coupled with a given speed figure attained should give you horses worth following in the next season. By doing this we are creating a list that will have amongst it only the top class performers and so we need to therefore avoid choosing horses to follow that might run in the same race the following season.

This is why he suggested grouping them in pairs so this is avoided. It should be noted that he was referring to the NH. The groups for NH will be Chasers, Hurdlers, and Novices, and these groups should be split by their preference for distance ie. stayer or not. This way you will avoid any chance of them running in the same race.

The second question regarding substantial staking has been answered but I will say that I agree with what has been said. In fact VDW touched on the point in paragraph 4 stating that if your points are 5 or 10 you do not expect to make a fortune from half-a-dozen horses.

A similar list can be drawn up for the flat in which they can be grouped by age, and preference for distance again. Don’t be looking for big prices, as that is not what it’s about. Market support should be there and often they will be odds-on which should not put you off. Take a look at Hawk Wing’s form. He ran in to a place first time out, 2nd in fact, as VDW preferred. Left to run in the Derby as it was a big step up in class and he had negatives, and now due to run tomorrow in the Eclipse!

Hello Lee

I`ve just been bringing myself up to speed on my favourite subject and I noticed that you spent 20 days in the wilderness from 28 April. This wouldn`t be anything to do with Max`s posting of 11.20pm on that day would it ? In any event I can`t find a reply to it. Strange that isn`t it ?

I`m just so wicked !!

Bye bye

Hi 111,

Not at all. It has all been said on here many times now; how different people perceive VDW, and also how different people perceive others, so there really hasn’t been much else to add.

When Crock asked a question the other day which I initially missed, I felt the answer I had would be a worth contributing?

Anyway, how are you progressing with your favourite subject? Nice chatting, ttfn.

Thanks for taking the time to answer, Lee.

I think you can sometimes spend so much time trying to 'read between the lines' in VDW's posts that you often miss the bleedin' obvious roll eyes

There`s no flies on you. You wouldn`t be a redundant Politician would you ? You`re quite adept at answering a question that wasn`t asked and body swerving the one that was.

And yes, thankyou for asking, I`m progressing just dandy.

111,

I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt and presume that you didn’t properly read and therefore understand my reply to your post where you shared your thoughts as to why I haven’t posted for 20 days.

You questioned if that absence had anything to do with the post from Max. If you have another look you’ll see that I answered the question with my first sentence. I then went on to explain why in fact I choose to stay away; going round and round in circles over and over the same stuff began to get tedious. I then gave my reason for my most recent post; in order to answer the questions that Crock asked.

Other than to get your kicks why else did you bother stepping in? Unless it was that you were missing me.

By the way, I’m pleased you’re progressing with the method. Chow.

Crock,

You’re right, keep it simple.

Well done with LOGICIAN Rob, I don't look at Summer jumpers, so couldn't offer an opinion.

Hope you beat the SP smile
