Important

The Kelly Criterion depends on the accuracy of your estimated win probability. If that estimate is too optimistic, the suggested stake may be considerably higher than is prudent.

Full Kelly can produce substantial fluctuations in a betting bank. Many bettors therefore use Half Kelly or Quarter Kelly to reduce volatility and provide some protection against inaccurate estimates.

Average odds and an average strike rate are most useful when they relate to a consistent type of bet. Where prices and selection methods vary widely, Kelly calculations should ideally be made separately for each bet.
