you are quite correct not to dismiss this type of horse easily. How ever the 5 most consistent without altering the figures is a very reliable guide in my experience.Unless we no defintly that any 1 form
figure could be wrong i think its best to leave well alone and go along the more tried and tested route of the origonal 5 most consistent.

..................................................................

Paul you should visit the Steve Balsamo thread now and again m8 n` mix with the march hares for a wee while - were daft as a brush over there dont you know?.

May i ask a couple of questions. I believe you used to race in athletic races, please correct me if i am wrong on that matter. when you ( if you ever did) raced against higher class oponents how did you no they was higher class than yourself until you had actually raced them . Did you ever pick up injurys for over trying against higher class . Did you ever follow the previous form figures of the other runners to get some kind of a guide or did you just run you own race

Yes Paul you are correct on that matter i did race in professional Athletics on the Highland Games circuit north of the border.
Yes we always knew to an extent the the class of runner we were up against prior to the race - the only exception was an un-exposed athlete. However! (and take note) - it was rare for a class act to be placed with a school that did not have some history.
Injuries were rare for myself but whenever i raced in the highest class i was exposed.
No we did not bother per - se with form figs - no i never ran my own race - ran to orders.

What is the correct web address for the steve balsamo thread.

Walter do you think there is any connections between race horses and olympian humans and the way they are brought from the low ranks to the high during there careers by there trainers,as both are highly tuned athletes.

Walter watched the 5000m final today , the winner come from ethiopia, what a athelete how does somebody train to be as impressive as that setting a new olympic record absolutly fantastic.

Yes Paul i thinks there is a connection between hoomans & horses just look at Princess Anne & Red Rum.
No living thing may prosper beyond its own capabilities nurtured or otherwise.
I do not know how 5000m runners train Paul but the way he kicked on from 5 laps out suggests he` has been training at altitude.

King's Apostle was pushed well up in class, and in distance for his Ascot run; From RP online:

As his owner-breeder wants to boost King's Apostle's young dam, the runner-up could now go Pattern-race hunting, which his rating is leaning towards anyway. His bid for the 7f Tote International at Ascot a week ago was declared a mistake and he is set to stay over 6f.
You might think I pull these things out of thin air; rest assuured, I don't.

so.if we are on about ego's..i must take a back seat...you and Lee are the experts...well so you keep telling us

obviously you don't recognise irony John

mind you..the reminder certainly made an impression on you Wink

I don't EVER remember Lee being really confident like I was John...more like..oooh this should win...oooh this looks favoured...then when said animal loses..nowt said..it were never a selection..if it wins...another legendary selection.

John..you may buy all this slight mention stuff...but I don't.

I'll just add that DOM was even money when I backed it...and I was 200% confident when I posted about it...something that you will rarely see on a VDW forum.

If Lee had posted in the same manner...you would have had an orgasm when it won and would have been on about how good he is for months.

this tells me...you are either sleeping with him Eek....selling booklets with him Wink....or just so biased it cannot be measured on any scale.

either one of those explanations is nowt to proud of me old chap Wink

all the best

The only irony I recognise is you slagging everbody else off, but creaming yourself because you selected a odds-on winner.
Says more about you than words ever could.

even money isn't odds on JohnD, now you ought to understand odds by now you know. Wink

yes..I was very pleased with myself John because this year I have backed 22 horses that were 10 pt bets like DOM and 19 of them have won...i'd say thats cause for a self congrat Cheers...I know...it's not the English done thing actually being happy about something...but bollocks to that nonsense.

I don't do bad from vdw seeing as how I don't understand it, according to you and the other leaflet seller.

Slagging everyone off? - mmm not really, just the pretenders who have no confidence in their selections.

some good posters on here..but unfortunately your superior attitude retards quite a lot happening I reckon.

your grasp of irony looks about the same as your grasp of betting odds Razz

anyway - as much as I like bantering with you I will leave you guys to it

as Mtoto says...be lucky Cheers

average odds for those were 1.90 using betfair odds that I actually backed them at Paul....not sp that John seems to bet at. Obvioulsy whether I get better or worse than SP depends on judgement, yesterday I wanted evens..if it went bigger then so be it.

the 22 bets were from March, normally get about 4/5 bets per month...this time of year could be more due to there being so many more decent races around.

they may not seem great prices but they are value bets as the profit shows

JohnD doesn't really understand value, he just sees a short priced horse and thinks it's automatic bad value..he's a bit of a typical betting shop punter mentality type.

Anyone on here could do similar..maybe they do...all you need is to use common sense and have a bit of imagination...you won't get that in booklets though.

If I were you Paul I would analyse each race beforehand using as many factors as possible...give yourself a good pre race picture of what you think the outcome will be and why.....write it all down. After the race you can then analyse which factors were relevant...and which weren't. If you do that for a full season using decent class races...I use listed class+..not handicaps.....you will have something way more valueable than anything that anyone will write down in a leaflet or book.

12 months Paul..it's nowt is it?...you will be amazed how much you can teach yourself at this game.

bizarre posting John Confused

not much point quoting me when it's not really accurate..and totally irrelevant..you on drugs? Wink

why would there be any symmetry when the VDW quote contains totally different figures???

i'd get out more John...you are cracking up old lad.

you make a comment about me being happy about a horse winning...I answered explaining why...and in the process tried to assist Paul..who you so obnoxously pissed on with your sad retort to his earlier query...you ought to try conversing with people John..you might be good at it one day...with lots of practice of course.

you will soon be on your own here John with your attitude...if the board stays up of course..in many ways it might not be such a bad thing if the board goes and removes some of the nonsense and unhelpful shite that you and other leaflet sellers spit out.

if i were you i'd stop being such a cock and start treating people properly....you know it makes sense duckie Wink Cheers

Now just to show there are no hard feelings...I will post my next 4 selections...CONFIDENTLY...CLEARLY...BEFORE the race...now I know thats something that yellow backed leaflet sellers really fear..but I can do it..I'm not SCARED like you and your alter ego. Guns...if they win they win...if they lose it won't reflect badly on any leaflet sales ...your achilles heel

ALL THIS CONFIDENCE ON A VDW BOARD...PHEW...INT IT SCARY JOHN? Razz

take care whilst rolling about John..those men in yellow coats might come along Wink

This is a tough race for the 11k prize. I rate the strength of the race at 99.

Oldjoesaid is definitely good enough to win against this level of opposition, but this is his sand debut, the prize is small, and thr draw is not the best. I can't see having been placed to win today.

Eisteddfod is a CD winner, which was his AW debut, he too has the class to take a race of this nature. He's been out of form so far this season but I suspect he's going to run a lot better today.

Exclamation is making his AW and hcp debut today. He's got an entry for the Ayr G.C. which off his current mark of 102 guarantees him a run. This 3yo will be running here as part of his preparation work. That preparation does not demand a win so although he may indeed go in today he's not been placed to win.

Ebraam is a sand horse (5 from 20), which is just as well as he's been running as if he's got a club foot on the turf (1 from 11). However he's changed stables since his best efforts and victory today looks remote.

Mac Gille Eoin is not well drawn here but he's got his distance (6 from 18 at 6f) and he's been running well for no reward and interestingly no penalty after his win in June. That win rates an 86. Three of his last four performances rate at, in chronological order, 94, 92, and 86 (over an inadequate 5f). He's not going to be far away today.

Warsaw is some horse and Mr De Kock some trainer if he goes in today.

New Freedom has foreign form that is impossible to assess, his UK form represents reasonable efforts in top class turf hcps. I can't persuade myself that he's been placed to win here.

Mutamared has been out of form for a long time, he's 6lbs below his lwm which was over C and D. But there has been no sign of a spark in any of his races and looks one to avoid for the time being.

Shifting Star has risen 18lbs over his last three races. Lto he ran a 98 but is +7lbs for it. However it seems a bit strange to switch the horse to the AW at this stage of the season, and a win today will ram his mark into three figs for small recompense. He's another with an entry for the Ayr G.C. who doesn't need a win to guarantee a run. At 3s he's too short for my liking.

Mastership˜s lwm was 82, he got 12lbs for a 3l win in a 6 runner C4 3yo hcp After that he ran 4 races in listed or better but didn't have the class. He has since run 9 consecutive hcps, including a couple of C3s, to no avail. His last three runs, turf, have been good and have excited punters into making him jt fav. But I don't like the look of his form, he couldn't make it in listed class and he should have picked up a hcp by now. Todays opposition aren't donkeys, he's still on 96 on the AW, and at 3s I will let him run unburdened with my bawbees.

Ashdown Express at 9yo and 66 races is having his AW debut today. If connections think he's out of form I think they would have been better to give him a rest rather than send him out for something he doesn't need.

Crystany is a 3yo who hasn't made an impression in listed company and is now stepping down to what I presume will be a career as a hcpper. Highly unlikely to win on his hcp debut.

Eisteddfod and Mac Gille Eoin win and place.

I had a look at this race earlier, thought Shifting Star had been placed to win, and make him a decent bet.
3yo's rarely win the Ayr Gold Cup, and he would go into that race (62k?) off much the same weight he's got in today's easier race. A couple of other reasons too; so I'd say he's up for it.
