The moral of the story is always look at the opposition I guess.
A buddy of mine who has close links with A P O'Brien stable, was told Aidan rates Soldier of Fortune as the best 4 year old he has ever trained, that is some accolade, when you think of Dylan Thomas,Scorpion,Hawk Wing,to name a few.
Yes, it was a great race to watch. Les was even closer with Tartan Bearer. Not much between TB and New Approach. How sweet was NA going to post alongside his pony! Bless.

Not sure the 6th furlong would though, Les? Have thought ever since the decs came out that Ancien Regime looked a sore thumb for this and, barring rain, still do.
Something to watch out for in a horses previous races on the run up to a big un is if they are slow to start or race out of their ground.Zaahid is a good recent example, in todays race at York one that catches the eye is Meydan Princess a fun bet win and place not had much time to look at them but thought id have a go at this race seein as it was mentioned a 3yr old affair though so not one of my fav races.
Aye Les, how they are placed is every bit as important as how they've raced. Bit disappointed with Ancien Regime yesterday, but definitely one to take out of the race is Good Gorsoon. Everyone will know about it, but will it be placed to take advantage on his next run or not? Some brilliant racing coming up this week, not least the return of our old friend FLAWED GENIUS in the Brittannia on Thursday; can't wait.
yes been going over some races john love the hunt cup and unhappy at the price of the fav so looked for an each way and wonder if nicolls can get a run out of kings point its been a while since it ran any race but with it moving to nicholls yard you just dont know

VDW Forum seems to be on a bit of a go slow at the moment so as to try to fan the flames im going to post some horses/selections for the 1st day of the Royal Meeting
2.30 Queen Anne---- SAGEBURG on form this to me looks a standout however how relevant that form is depends on his ability to reproduce his recent form on fast ground as all his best form is on ground with some cut, his Sires best form was on ground with give and his damsire linamix progeny do appear to go better on softish ground. SAGEBURG to win if handling the ground (i wont be lumping on!)
3.05 KINGS STAND -----FLEETING SPIRIT, not very original I know, but Magnus and Takeover Target are not getting any younger and are better over further, Kingsgate Native will have to be a superstar to win this first time out and nothing else really catches the eye. The only horse to finish in front of FS in the last 3 runs is the mighty Natagora so that will do for me!
3.45 ST JAMES'S PALACE STAKES Don't really like the "shape" of this race with Henrythenavigator having what looks like the best form but looks terrible value with some decent horses in opposition, RAVENS PASS gets his ground and I'm expecting serious improvement from him and will be having a small bet that he will fulfill his potential.
Nice one Regal Exile, good to see some life breathed back into the thread. Falco for me in the 3.45. Fleeting Spirit looks a likely winner, but too close for a bet. Sageburg is a strange one, as you'd assume that Soumillon has the pick, yet he sticks with Darjina? Tariq just about the choice, though again not a bet.
