Thanks Guys, Thumb

He won it rather easily didn't he?

(Pity Zonergem cost me a small tricast I had done)

A profit of £360 today, and stuffing that in the golf bag takes the total up to £2,145.75 Smile

A profit of £1,145.75 after 10 days

But only 18 days left Guns

Well, I'm still kicking myself for not putting up CROW WOOD yesterday - I thought the race was too competitive for a confident bet - but in hindsight (ah, that wonderful thing), it was no more riskier than the SRI DIAMOND bet.

Still, that's racing. Nothing today. Frown

Only 16 days left!!! Fight

Ling. 3.30

Should involve 2 horses - THE Violin and WELLINGTON HALL.

Prices are 4/1 and 11/2/ respectively.

I've been agonising over the staking - but going to stick to simple £50 e/w on THE Violin at 4/1 (Stan James)

Personally, I may have a small saver bet as well on t'other horse.

Pushed for time - have a viewing at lunchtime - fingers crossed

Thanks Guys,

It must be my lucky day, as we've received and accepted an offer on our house from the lunchtime viewing. Smile

Unfortunately, this means that this thread will either come to a premature end, or be suspended.

I am having to put my "overseas medical trip" on hold, and will have to take a family trip down to Devon to find a new home. May be from this weekend.

This is a disappointment, as I was really enjoying myself (and making some good money as well).

Thanks for all your contributions (bar one) to keep me motivated. Thumb

Staking
If I had put £100 win on my bets instead of £50/ew (and just leaving the 2 £10 e/w "fun" bets as they were)
My profit after 14 days would be £2,310.00

instead of the current £1,395.75 Roll Eyes

Gives me a chance to get on my soap box.

I started this thread in fun - yes, it may come to a shock to some of you, but the bailiffs are not really coming around. I wanted to put some urgency into meeting an unreasonably high target within an unreasonably short time scale.

To make £4,000 profit from £1,000 bank in 28 days is a tall order. However, with an odd bit of luck and a following tailwind, I believed it was possible. I'm not so sure now because of the abnormal lack of betting opportunities due to the high number of abandoned meetings. My selections depend on handicaps, and have been more successful in the races of Class "C" and above.(Also, I am making arrangements to go abroad for medical treatment, which may come sooner rather than later)

Apart from the fun side, I wanted to show that it is possible to do quite well using only the free RP website, and crude staking. These points are important to me.

When I first started betting, I used tipsters. I swopped from one to the other, chasing my tail and losing money.

I tried betting short-priced favs – you know the sort – non-handicap races, no more than 12 runners, won last time out, placed before that etc etc - but a high strike rate did not ensure profit because of the short prices.

I tried computer software, ratings and systems. Again, subscribing to different Ratings services, swopping between them – still didn't make a profit.

Ahhh my problem was my staking. I tried different staking methods – different mathematical progressions, spreadsheets, ladder, Colgate mathematical formula – all sorts. I still failed to make a profit. Now, before you staking buffs jump on me – I'm sure many (if not all) would have worked with my selections– but not for ME. When a losing run comes along and I get out of my comfort zone, I just cannot continue – I'm risking more than I feel comfortable with. This spreadsheet is telling me to put £X on this horse and I don't want to, I'm anxious, my blood pressure goes up, I start sweating, I'm uncomfortable and I'm not enjoying it. If I'm not enjoying it, I'm not doing it.

So, I'm not saying that other ratings are not useful – but just wanted to show that the free ones can be used perfectly adequately.

Likewise, I am positive that a different staking approach would enhance my profits to the nth degree. Looking back at results, something as simple as "win only" instead of "each way" would do for a start – but I don't care, I'm doing what I'm comfortable with. I'm betting these with my money and I'm quite happy with my profits as they are. I don't want to go outside my "comfort zone" again, I'd rather give up. I am in control, not some spreadsheet. Many of you will think I'm crazy – why not utilise profits as best as possible? Well, perhaps I AM crazy Crazy

I'm gutted!

Devil1

Looks like I have to go out this morning.

In the Southwell 3.30 PAWAN £50 e/w f/p 16/1

With 30.0+ the win and 8.0+ the place being offered on Betfair - will have to go there.

I was trying to avoid this as obviously I could exaggerate my prices claiming Betfair prices. But as this is an outsider, and I have to go out soon, then I'm stuck. The price will probably drift anyway both on the exchanges and at the Bookies, so I don't think grabbing an early price will be as important as in many of my previous bets.

Good Luck

Hello Trojan, I'e looked at Pawan a number of times myself. The record of Ann Stokell on it and also on Legal Set is abysmal. She has gone about 137 rides since her last winner. I wish she would sometimes put a decent jocky on these two horses. Who is she and what is her history?
I wish you well with todays bet
All the Best, Tyro

Hi Tyro,
Thanks for poppin in - was it the smell of the bacon sarnies that lured you in? Smile

I don't know any more than the info that is available on the RP website about Ann Stokell. She is also the Trainer for PAWAN and LEGAL SET, and both are owned by Ms Caron Stokell - so could be a "keep it in the family" affair.

As for her jockeyship, I wouldn't back her in a 5f sprint - as many of her horses "dwell" or "miss the break" - long enough for them to eat a bag of apples (or is she checking her lipstick in the rearview mirror Wink )

Not looking good as PAWAN is available at most bookies at 33/1. So, I may as well have a hell of a day and throw in another bet down in the depths of a Class 6 race:

So, today I have bet:

Southwell 3.30 PAWAN £50 e/w at 33/1

Southwell 4.30 PRINCE OF GOLD £50 e/w at 12/1
(Another drifter Frown )

Ahh!! Southwell AW - don't you just love it?

The sand, the buckets and spades, sticks of rock, candy floss, hot dogs, "fcuk me quick" hats and donkey rides - what more could you ask for?

PAWAN came 5th and for a nano-second, thought he was going to be placed. Loss of £100.

PRINCE OF GOLD was placed 3rd. Profit of £70.

So, net loss on day of £30.

Golf Bag now stands at £2,365.75

13 days left Fight

PS A word about emotions and discipline. The viewer who made an offer on my house, which was accepted, withdrew from the sale after 24 hours.
I should really have not bet today with such emotions at the forefront of my mind. I think it showed with the somewhat cavalier bets of today - my usual caution having been abandoned.
I will let you know when I am having another emotional upset Crying1
