when i am looking at the whole card as you have done i always run the filter first just incase there are no qualifiers, its the pvt that takes up the time and anything to make life easier sounds good to me.

So are you saying that if there is no filter qualifiers in the race then dont bother to do the PVT, is that correct?

Cheers Kis

yes unless you want to go on form alone the problem then though is you have no more of an edge than anybody else,i prefer to find qualifiers then look at the form in relation to the rest of the field.

re down to the woods
i would not be interested in backing this one first time up on the a/w,yes its the class horse but it still fails the filter.none of the others pass either though so i could not say with any confidence which one will win,if i had to choose though i would go e/w with weetmans weigh and hope it turns the jolly over.

I am trying to work out the process flow(if poss)

1) r/p online look at trainer/jockey - discard them that fail
2) use 80/20 rule - discard failures
3) run filters - discard failures
4) run points
5) run/look form
6) check going/dist

is this the best/quickest way ???

right lets make things as easy to understand as possible.
first up click on top trainers for race looking at and list then do same for jockey, cross check both lists to match up qualifing trainers and jockeysyou will now have usually reduced the field by 70%.this now becomes your master list and any potential selection must come from there.the only exception to this rule would be if NO no horse qualified through filters, and you wanted to bet just on form alone but as i have already stated this blunts the edge that qualifiers through the filter enjoy i personally would rather move on and look at another race if no filter qualifiers.the purpose of compiling a master list is that it saves you running the filter through every trainer and jockey with the field reduced like this you only have to look at 30% of the field.from your list check trainer current form as per rule.this wil often bring your list down even further.next of any stil on the list run filter discarding any that fail along the way.
next evaluate entire field as previous instruction explains.compare your qualifiers off your list with the rest of the field from the points value given to all runners.if your selection is in the top third of table then look at the draw if not seriously disadvantaged then your 2/3 selections become a bet.the 80/20 list is relevent to the turf but do not place as much emphasis on it when looking at the a/w.
remember the top jockeys have been sunning themselves all winter where as the likes of jimmy quinn have been whizzing around lingfield for the last 4 months,it is surprising how some of the top turf jockeys under perform on the a/w.
it is always more difficult this time of year the flat is just getting going and a lot of the horses are not even there to compete and the n/h season is winding down so form will ineviatably tale off.
the method i have given you will get better as the season picks up and you will have plenty of opportunities to find plenty of winners throughout the coming months.
remember if you do not like the look of a particular race or for some reason are not happy with your selections then look elsewhere there are plenty to choose from and no matter how competitive or how bad a card may look you will always be able to find a suitable dutching opportunity each day.
i would like to offer every assistance possible and make the process as easy as i can so will shortly post up guidelines for each race type you encounter i.e h/c stakes claimers etc.as each race requires different angles to find the winner i thought pointers would be of some use because depending on which race you are looking at it requires the winner to fit a set profile.more about that later.

Hi Max

I`m managing to keep up with all this so far but today I have a ? I`ve looked back on the thread and I don`t think it`s been asked before.

Today 4:20 Ling. This is a classified stakes race.

In the online RP Trainer stats, the The Race Type gives the following choices:

H/C
Sell
Appr
Mdn
1st time out

What do we do here?

Thanks mate

111 i had this problem when i first used the r/p online but i took the view that as long as in non h/c the trainer stats passed generally then let it pass.i mean if he failed on h/c but passed in claimers etc then its ok,i think we have two split the race type into two groups h/c or any stakes races.

f1nut when making your master list from the top trainer/jockey boxes then use 5 season stats but when running the filter for class etc use last season allthough we are now 3 months into the year it would not hurt to look at 2002 to see if they contradict each other,as the a/w season wears on i am increasingly looking at this years % because there maybe cases where a trainer is progressing this year, they could have had a bad season last for a number of reasons or could have just been new to the game and getting a feel of it so to speak and this year really firing,d shaw is a good example of a progressive trainer.

Thanks Max,

I feel like I`m doing an Open University course.
It has a lot of similarities, work at your own pace, direct contact with the tutor and so on.

I noticed Q has made a few posts on other threads recently, he must be well on top of this.

Well done Q I`m impressed.

Yours

Max. If 111's exam is for dutching, he should get a dutch cap with his gown.
Sorry about that teacher! JIF
