well i've gone for...

redemption

in that { the RCM }

mainly because it is the spotyform horse in the daily mirror, which i think has a certain amount of speed basis in tyheir ratoings, and also the spotform horse in the daily mail which are more collatterasl form type ratings...

the going shouldn't inconvenience and itsa CD winner...

stable appears to be in form and this is the sort of race the trainer should be aiming at as he ain't going to win The Gold Cup with it!

cheers IMP

Walter,

I first look at the adjusted ratings as although they might not affect the horse (ie the weight doesnt matter) they probably do affect the trainers thinking. He will of course be able to work them out from the 5-day stage onwards, infact his office staff probably do it routinely for all entries.

Secondly I look at the historic highest ratings for each category of rating. As we are dealing with novices here they are all fairly recent but I do take the hdls values even when it is a chase as experience has told me that this is the correct procedure. The highest ratings need not have come from the same race.

In answer to johnd the clear winner in the RCM would have to be REDEMPTION(sorry to muck up your selection imp ;-) ) OUR ARMAGEDDON would of course be a worry but you have to take its fitness on trust & hope it has retained its ability after18+ months off the track so its redemption for me
all the best
Larry

the good thing about VDW is if 2 or more people come up with the same selection BEFORE the race it is obviously wrong but after the race everyone agrees the winner was the VDW selection
yep i dont understand what i've written either
all the best

Cheers John In Braasil.

Gonny tell us what the clear "winner in a race" is in the 2.40 Cheltenham?.
The thread is beginning to open up a bit now that were rid off the "I know sooo much more than you brigade" dont you think?.

Anyway i had a look at that race again on your behest as to be honest nothing stood out for me last night.
I reckon Fondmort has a squeak.

Fondmort 240C is well overdue a win. Is CD, is back to nearly his last winning mark which was over CD against superior opposition.

Has had a good recent run after a lay off and looks placed to win.

great start not i thought i'd crossed the i's & dotted the t's but if the horswe doesnt run to potential there's no oddsing that.
in all honesty saturday racing should be left alone but its the only day alot of people get the chance to study everything properly anyway onwards & upwards
all the best

It isn't a question of 'knowing so much more than others'; just understanding some of it a little better in my case.
While I am pleased to see that this thread is opening up, and will endeavour to join in and give a little back when able, I won't be putting selections up, before or after, the race.
There is a very good reason for this, unlike Blackcat I firmly believe that when VDW said "You will have the same horses as myself"he meant it, and that the method, by definition, often throws up clear and unequivocal selections on which there should be no doubt and no room for argument. That that isn't the case, on here or other boards, is clear testament to the lack of understanding of what he tried to convey, imo.
If one accepts the above, as I do, then it should be quite clear where everyone backing the same horse would lead, if one doesn't accept it, there is still enough mileage in his work to turn a profit for those with sufficient interest.
The race today is a case in point, it does, imo, throw up a clear selection, not only that but it is also a case of the trainer telling us the horse 'Is really out to win'. Some may believe it, some certainly won't, the choice, as with believing in VDW or not, is down to the individual

Johnd: The fruits of your method dont appear to be worth hoarding. Your recent posts list four aftertimed winners and two races the winners of which didn't conform to your procedure.
