Thanks Imp. You mean what am I doing in one of VDW's well stocked ponds? am I poisoning the selections? a danger to the selectors? and how do I relate to the quality of other members' posts?

The posts by pfiesteria started off as very amusing:

Talking of VDW:
"I know him. Give me a couple of days and I'll ask if he minds me posting his e-mail addy"

In response to Imp's definition of pfiesteria
Thanks Imp. You mean what am I doing in one of VDW's well stocked ponds? am I poisoning the selections? a danger to the selectors? and how do I relate to the quality of other members' posts?

In reply to Kefaaf's welcome:
"'Smee pleasure mate, always willing to offer a helping hand to the flounder(ers)"

And my personal favourite, in reply to Bustino:
"when I first met the old boy he'd already given the big E to the nags. Of course we've chatted over a cuppa about races enough. I dont go along with all his thinking but sometimes he can pull one out of his hat"

But it went downhill from there, and Epi surely cannot be surprised by his eviction, which I support btw:

"Irish: beware of parasites like AlanB and Vanman"

"David: how many posts of AlanB have you read? in their entirity? A load of waffly tripe. If his posts are worth reading please present a pecise here. One paragraph'll do"

"Title is ˜I'm ignorant so it's shit-kicking'"

And probably the final nail:
"God you idiots are thick"

Fair enough. I joined with the intention of amusing myself but unfortunately I found the pace tediously slow and shifted a gear or two. I thought it funny that the poster who asked if anyone had known VDW was unwilling to accept an affirmative answer, otherwise it wasn't one of my most conspicuous successes.

Gummy

Please consider going back to a public forum for VDW! Private or restricted fora do not work.
For some years, this has been THE forum for such discussions, but, at the moment it is being usurped by a very tepid imitation.
By allowing them to continue uncontested, you are creating a safe haven for the deluded to misguide the naive, which serves no useful purpose except for the numerous self-styled 'pro's' and 'experts' to aftertime to their hearts content.
For God's sake Gummy, show them a thread with real teeth. Big Grin

Seems they are thinking of setting up a private forum for the VDW clan on VDW Collection
Some of the Expert Members would appear to be frightend of revealing their secrets to lurkers.

I wonder why they are not frightened of revailng all to Tony Peach
They must think Tony and friends have put the forum up for VdW followers benefit
When all they are doing is trying to promote the sale of books
We should be able to read all about it in TP's next book Big Grin

You have to Laugh dont you
I think your last sentance on there was probably correct EP

One thing he certainly couldn't spare was a 'piece (sic)of mind', Roll Eyes).

Investor
Keep up the good work on the other forum. I have been at something of a loose end since 'Friends' finished, but find the characters on there equally entertaining, and a damn sight funnier. Big Grin Big Grin

Hi JIB
Books
It's not a problem, really. Investor paid for those books in the first place. I am a stranger. Why should he just lend them out - how does he know he'd get them back. We have come to an arrangement. I am happy with it. And so is he. Thanks for your concern though.

THE forum
This Gummy forum board is excellent. I love it and I've learnt a lot from it too, and am still learning. Of particular recent note was the value and importance of the OR. What it is and how it is used. And that has got me thinking about the other ratings, which I have just accepted blindly 'til now.

However, whilst some like the VDW threads to have "real teeth", a few get carried away and (imo) often bite too hard. Discussion breaks down into a predictable pattern as mirrored in the VDW Handicap Chase. And progress (of a strictly van der wheil kind) is a hard slog.

This is of course just my opinion.

I do not intend to defend the other board in any way. But it suits me. ("Suits you Sir" do I hear?! Big Grin )

It is not you who is deluded, on the contrary, you appear to have your feet firmly on the ground,(All four of them?).
It is those who try to sell the concept of "Buy the form books, study each example in great depth, spend years analysing every last detail of every runner's every run, and then you might come to the same conclusion as me"
VDW SIMPLY isn't like that, it is just that the misguided have followed that route assiduously, and thus become convinced that it is the only way, yet still cannot come up with a SINGLE solution, as I pointed out recently.
If you doubt my words, try those of VDW instead;

"No genius in finding winners, just a methodical and consistent approach".

" Others fail to see what to my mind is elementary"

"Once you find it, you'll wonder how on earth you could miss it".

There is some justification in checking one's thoughts against his selections; there can be no earthly reason, in the light of the foregoing, behind pretending that the answer will only come to those who think of it as some sort of lifetime thesis. I say that advisedly, as one who has been there and done that, and for other reasons.
Amongst those who have taken this route, and said so on here, there is but one who, IMO, has come anywhere close to the answer;Lee, who himself admitted that he arrived at that solution by a stroke of luck, even though he, likewise, had striven to grind the answer from the old form books.
The rest, with the possible exception of Mtoto, who has travelled his own route and appears happy enough with his own interpretation, are, almost to a man, followers of the 'Guest' approach, which while it has its merits, is IMO blinding them to the SIMPLE truth, and effectively leading others up the long and tedious garden path.

Hence the "Deluded misguiding the naive".

Cheers
Johnd

you have shown how good your approach is on the 80% thread and on the underpants thread as well so don't start giving this bollocks about achieving anywhere near the s/r that vdw said was possible. When you first came on this thread you claimed you had 8 out of 10 using vdw's approach and then of course when you actually started to put what you thought were vdw good things up.The strike rate plumeted faster than a whores knickers,So don't delude yourself because i know different.Posters only have to look at your selections and they can make there own mind up on wether you have found the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.Maybe you have found a pot but it will be full of shit much the same as you are.

Jib
If a complete stranger walked up to you would you lend him 150 quid and tell him to give it you back when he could,If so.I think that Dunge fever or whatever it is, Has severely damaged your senses.

Hi Investor,

Where have you been?

Well, I;ve found your A/R idea fairly good in certain valuable races, but I haven't made much of the last 3 form fig stuff.

What I do instead is note the win prize money won in the last 12 months.

Sometimes this rejects a horse with old form that does beat my selection, but mostly it gets rid of has-beens.

I also like to see C and D and I add on a grand for each of these.

Seems to get me somewhere near.

I won't tell you the best filter of the lot, cos I can't have all you VDWers taking all the money!

JohnD,

Your interpretation of how I found what I believe to be the key element that ties everything together when interpreting form isn't quite as straightforward as you are implying.

I reply to those who say such things as ˜you're a lucky so and so' with: ˜luck is the product of attitude and desire – in other words it is possible to make your own luck!', this is something I wholeheartedly believe through my own experiences.

To that end, had I not waded through hours and hours of form I wouldn't have got lucky – simple as that!
