Anyway, enough of the Investor bullshit. There are two horses today that, to my eye, look highly over-priced on the forecast, Lake Garda in the 4:00 and Santiburi Lad in the 4:30, both at Newcastle. Any views?

I gave you the cheaper one of the 2 velvet waters would have cost you 4.40.So that's 2 down 2 to go.These inflatables are really good and the great thing is they hardly ever burst. Wink

Jeez - I don't believe I'm saying this but...

TC - whatever the dole think give Investor credit, he posted his lays before the off.

Jeez - I don't believe I'm saying this but...

TC - Investor has a point, if the mythical non existent bloke had had access to an exchange to lay horses (had he actually existed) I think he would have taken advantage of it. Though my definition of "nearer 90%" is different to Investors - if my strike rate goes that low I'll stop and rethink.

Akimbo - I agree but only in terms of value that Akimbo was a lay. There was, however, a very good trading opportunity in that race.

I think the lack of posts today says much about VDW - I mean it was only day one of the Derby meeting, not a squeak on here - were the races not good enough quality?. The ones that know (do they exist, I think so but..) say nothing, fair enough - wouldn't want to give too much away and help others, or give too much away to those that might not need the pamphlets.

The ones that think they know say nothing - for fear of making a complete balls up pre race (did I really say "pre race" - in a VDW type place), again fair enough - though will be first to shout up VDW selection after the race (ahh that redresses the pre race bit).

I'm not a member of the click and never will be - therein lies the rub. At the risk of losing my title - VDW as a whole concept appears to be bollocks. As a set of ideas it is good, but, nothing that couldn't have been obtained elsewhere and through common sense - rather than the Holy Grail status it seems to have achieved after a race has run.

Should anybody be remotely concerned (I actually hate betting at the better meetings, far more to be earned at the poorer races - gulp in direct conflict with VDW) 2 bets today Sundrop and Eccentric - the first was a no bet (I just don't bet in 4 or 5 runner races), the second bet isn't aftertimed it was put up in OT's tipping challange - something VDW'ers singularly fail to do, even 1 minute before the off. The only person I know of that posts selections (in a VDW type context) before the off is OT - and a right good read it is.

So, basically I don't believe the VDW'ers (not a single one of you has agreed on a selection, unless the race is over - and even then you disagree - , it's like watching the house of commons/Lords on the Telly) - convert me, go on I dare you before a race, doh!

I don't believe it - my 6 year-old son is a closet VDWer.

He was quite happy to give "Hedgehunter" as the winner of the Grand National proir to the race, but when I asked him for his Derby fancy this morning - he replied:

"It's a secret" Scared

No doubt he'll tell me after the race!

nofinepix,

I've not been a member for long and today is one of the first proper bets I've had since joining. Not much time at the moment so I'll just post up the selections, happy to justify / defend it against ridicule later Smile.

I've gone for Enforcer in the first at Epsom (approx. 13/2 on BF). Got a lot of obvious numerical VDW traits (consistency, ability which isn't the greatest guide in 3yo events and running in better races). I also think the course and distance are likely to suit (bit of a worry on breeding (1m?) but ran well at 1m 1f at Goodwood. Not without doubts but the price covers it for me.

grundy,

I've got Gypsy King, Motivator and Fracas in the Derby (shortest price I've taken is 8s). On the day I think GK will win (been a Motivator fan for a long time but have changed my mind). The Dante's been a strong trial in recent years but the Dee Stakes has been a fair guide too, Fracas' route to Epsom doesn't look too shabby either.

Regards

Carlos

I may be wrong but I don't think there is a sole selection in The Derby. My initial shortlist against the field were Gypsy king, Motivator, Fracas and Hattan. I've now reduced it to Gypsy King and Motivator. I wouldn't know how to split the two and don't honestly think I should even try to split them.

TC,

GK is by Saddlers Wells whose course SR is not good. The Flatstats people have been saying Saddlers Wells Progeny are a dodgy proposition for the derby.

Looking at the race from the same perspective as VDW viewed Quest For Fame's Derby gives the following:

Dubawi,Oratorio...Both milers,won't stay.

Motivator..Won Gp1 120k race 2nd run last year.
Won gp2 Dante over extended 10f, beating The Geezer comfortably. Lightly raced, high class and improving, and the likely winner.

Fracas...Improving, won 57k 10f race lto. Likely to improve for step up in distance, but needs to to win this.

Gypsy King...Won 37k ext 10f Dee Stakes. Yet to show form at this level, and looks a Leger horse IMO.

Luck to all

Cheers BC,

As I said I don't back too many, when I do I'm happy to put them up and discuss them.

Here's hoping the Derby's as kind.

Regards
