Still away getting treatment, so I have to my chance of internet access when I can.

Here 's my initial "VDW" type selection short-list for the Derby, based mainly on win prize money:

Dubawi
Oratorio
Shamardal
Motivator
Fracas
Gypsy King.

I'm already on Oratorio and am thinking of backing Fracas.

well done with Helvetius, I agree it was odd it being fc fav for this race, price too big for me to lay but I wouldn't have bet it with your money to actually win. Drunk

When you come to understand vdw fully there are many races were a particular horse is fighting against the odds,And there are many races were a horse has a mountain to climb ( self respect).Over the years i have learnt when it is safe to take these types on,Even helvetius 5.9 on B.f.i stood to lose a great deal of money for my 200 stake but like Self respect the odds were stacked heavily against the horse. This scenario happens on many occasions in all types of races and when one really understands the essence of vdw and the various methods employed the positives soon outweigh the negatives an there is ALWAYS more than one way to skin a cat. Sorry - but I cant find any references in the VDW writings relating to "Laying" horses Roll Eyes

A quick check with "crotley" gives a strike rate of around 76% with his "crabs" resulting in a v-v - small profit over the season .

Therfore a smart ass series of "Lays" would give an approx 8 out of 10 correct results giving the impression that the contributor actualy knew - what he was about !!

Total Bollocks in actual fact !!!

Any Arshole can put up "Lays"

ectoo has the "Balls" to put up "Winners"

Applause

i couldn't aggree more and the figure is nearer 90% than 80.The beauty of it is those 3 lays today made me more than i earned in a fortnight at work.So back em lay em who gives a ****.What you must also remember is that this kind of betting wasn't around in those days but i'm pretty sure vdw would have capitalised on it.A great colin Davey saying "It's like shelling peas". Good Lad -

I am sure that "The Old King Cole" gives you great Personal Satisfaction.

However - as you have in the past been at great pains to point out - this is a VDW Thread, and I don't see how "Laying" has any relevence to his writings ???

you will need more than 2 lays to convince me of anything Investor, now you know that don't you.

If you can do the Oaks Derby double using VDW..then I might think you are smarter than the average bear Drunk2

Thanks TC, the old balls get smaller each year though Sweat

Investor

Anyone who came to understand VDW, (As opposed to one who gains second hand knowledge from someone who doesn't Big Grin) should have known that there were important factors against North Light today; none of them to do with weight, but all of them absent from your reasoning.
Your 'latest' approach is obviously as ill-informed as most of the previous ones were; 3lbs my butt!

ps Also, unless I misunderstand how laying works, your 200 stake on a 1 to 5 shot, even multiplied by 3 bets, wouldn't add up to a row of beans?
More than 2 weeks wages,???; maybe your former employer actually recognised your true worth?Big Grin

You most certainly don't understand how laying works. You ought to spread your wings a bit.but being as i'm a kind sole i will enlighten you,You have a 'Backers stake " which in my case was 200 you win that back. Then you have a "Liability" which in the case of helvetius was 4.9 so i stood to lose the best part of a grand if the horse won.As it hapens all 3 lays did me proud and netted the best part of 600 quid.I'm suprised a man of your means doesn't understand Laying,Much the same with vdw really. Wouldn't shout about it too much -

King Cole might get interested in the 3 grand plus that you evidently have in your Betfair account.
