"As he said himself, he wanted to show me the way, to prove that what he said was true, but for it be taken away in memory only. My reply to him was that I don't have a memory to take it away with! This suited the situation and so, no, I won't be seeking to make my fortune off his back. I've forgotten most of it already and long may it be so."

Boozer,

I agree, sad to say.

Vampires all, a palid reflection.

Not invisble.

To some.

Boozer,

Whats the best advice you have ever been given regarding horse racing?

I'll tell you mine.

Don't trust nobody, tell nobody nothing.
Everybody know's it all anyway. Sic. Lee.

Just been looking for it
Must have been about 1972
The first time I came across the phrase Dropped in class
One stat that I remember was out of a 4000 race sample 90% of the winners were racing in the same class or lower than their last race
Dont know how that holds up today
Sounds a bit high

I was looking through Braddock a couple of days ago and it's interesting to see how misleading these percentages can be, for example for all races flat 1988 and NH 1988-89, 80% of winners had last run within 28 days. However of horses that had run within 28 days the percentage of winners was 9.6 (flat) and 11.2 (NH), in short the vast majority of horses had run within 28 days, so it's not wildly useful information. The same with this 90%, unless we know what percentage of all runners were in the same or lower class, it's not a very useful statistic.

Boozer,

You say you are surprised that only one person replied to the Sad Ken weird SR thread. Actually it literally left me speachless, something I've never suffered from before! Smile

I must have pumped up a reply half a dozen times but on each occasion I thought it best to leave the thread the way it was as any critcism would only spoil it.

It reminds me of the story of the chap who said he could fly. Who was the bigger chump? The guy who said it or the one who got in his car and drove over to watch him take off?

Yes, SE the bat is good!!

Trouble is , I'm more confused than ever now;
you see, I thought LEE was Batman, and Investor was Robin,

so, for me, it's all up in the air.

Take care in that hospital, JIB! If your SR with those nurses goes as high as Investor's, you'll be in danger of tiring yourself out.

EPI

Your are of course correct about the stats
Heres an extract from a 1973 book I fould last night
A lot of it similar to VDw stuff
This time the class and drops in class are based on racecourse groups
ascot 1
warwick 5 etc

Class: Only 315 winners in 5,000 races were running in a higher class than their last race. Astounding! Your competitors on the track, with only a few exceptions, do not know this. They have some general idea about class, but do not really know the score.
These figures suggest that, in nine out of ten races, the winner is running in his own class or in a lower class.
The judgment is based on class distinction between races and racetracks

Cheers Boozer, i agree, a more up to date list would be needed for flat & jumps.
So if anyone can help?.
