No BC!
![]() The raw figure DP achieved (The actual speed the race was run at) would have been a 98. The RP have added on 8 to accomodate the 8lbs he carried over their standard 9st. Had he carried 8.08 and still run the same speed (98) his adusted s/f would then have been 92, (9st -6lbs less than standard carried. No need to convert it all to lbs, or any multiplication or fractions; just take the winners s/f and deduct whatever it carried over 9st - or add on whatever it didn't carry below it. Same with NH, only 12 stone is the base figure, (If they don't turn decimal before next season ![]() Les Handicap ratings don't apply in stakes races, although Don't Panics s/f is bordering on a Listed performance which is today's race class. Shouldn't have any trouble running to it too, with 10lbs less in similar circumstances. |

johnd the bhb -5 is the mark i like to set ,to check against the horses performance, more and it maybe improving, less its a slow run race and you may need to check the form ,its only a marker it can work with all grades

I've applied my newfound knowledge to the horse that sparked this debate - Wodhill Schnapps. Very interesting!!
In its penultimate run, it carried 10.10 (which is +24 over 9st). Its TS of 69 thus becomes 93, running in what appears to be 0-58. Thererfore, if I'm following this corretly (which is never certain with me) the time was actually very fast (due to the weight carried) even though it "appears" to be slow. Is this a correct deduction, or am I off the beam again? BC ![]() |

Bloody Hell BC, I've given it back to front.
![]() ![]() You should, of course, be deducting for weight over 9st, and adding for weight under, as in my original example. Wodhill Schnapps ran a figure of 69 less the 24lb the RP have added for the extra weight, so the race was run at a 45, a slow pace for the class. Very sorry about that, hope you hadn't placed any bets on the strength of it? ![]() |

No, Don't Panic.
I've only the one bet today. ![]() Thanks for setting me right. I was thinking that I'd missed a sitter, as I didn't have a bean on him when he won LTO. The good thing is that I now understand the principle. That is the TS figure is already adjusted for weight, and what you're doing is extracting the true figure and comparing it with the highest race OR. Thank you for sharing that with us. ![]() |
