Boozer,
Both. However I don't think I've ever seen it in a sprint, which is not surprising considering its nature. |

JIB good to see that you have found your way back.
I was wondering if Mayoral duties might have been keeping you from posting ![]() Lets hope the rains continue. tc |

1st) There is one type of race comment which is a sure fire indicator of a horse that is going to win nto. Obviously it is a rare occurence, not even appearing once a week, but that is only to be expected, however its reliability at indicating that a horse has been brought to the boil is unquestionable. As far as I am aware no one has ever commented on this on any forum and certainly never on a vdw one. I am not currently inclined to be the first correspondent to do so but the subject is one worthy of more debate.
Will you be telling us sometime soon john?. |

Is it "This horse is sure to win NTO"?

TC,
Its been raining for 36hrs now and I'm almost giddy with the smoothness of my connection! Its hard to imagine that it will last though. PS. If he wasn't just a 5yo I'd be quite keen on Punjabi in the Champion Hurdle, he's improving so fast that the apprentice couldn't hide him lto. The talk from the stable that the horse has a better future as a 76 rated flat horse than a 156 rated hurdler is the most ridiculous thing I've read this year. |

Walter,
I rather hope that we will be able to work it out together. My reply to Boozer is something of a clue. BC, The 'nto' may extend a couple or more races. A good recent example of this comment is a horse that got it coming 12th of 14 on the turf (7f). After three further (uninspiring) races on the turf it popped in on its AW debut (7yo!) at 25/1! |

Hi John
Good to see you back I was thinking you had got trapped in the local drinking den with the wife away ![]() Ive noticed some of the younger horses that earn a high rating do go on to better things,3yo against older, Im hoping its Quickened again the quote you are talking about |

Rab,
Unfortunately the wife is back! 'Quickened again' is so similar to the comment I regard as lethal that I would make little distinction between them. |

Punjabi 3rd @ 25/1
![]() The £38k prizemoney won today will take a bit of beating on the flat. Unless they think they've got a horse for the long distance races at Royal Ascot. |

Paul,
Punjabi was not an example of the 'lethal' race comment. I only mentioned him because he looked to be a horse that was improving beyond the capacity of the Oficial Handicapper to keep track. His last run as top weight in a G3 hcp was only his first ever hcp in what looks to be a top class nonhcp career, afterall its his novice season. I'm sure the idea was for the apprentice just to ride him along as a prep; topweight, 1sthcp, course debut. The only problem was they forgot to tell the horse who, when given a nudge to see if he was capable of being competitive just scooted into 2nd place. "held up towards rear, steady headway approaching 3 out, stayed on strongly from 2 out to chase winner last, kept on well under pressure but always held" The busines about being held by the winner was probably more due to the boy just holding on rather than driving him out. There were eighteen 130+ rated runners in that field of 24 and the ease with which Punjabi just cruised past them gives the impresssion that he just oozes class, something that I feel was vindicated today. |

* Thanks for your point, Andy C. ! think I basically agree!
* Nice to hear from you again, JIB! I look forward to finding out about this key comment! Interesting debate continues. Thanks to all. Btw, having read Andy's point about taking the oppositition into consideration, I'm not so sure you're right with " comfortably", Les. Hopefully, the rains will keep up in Brazil and JIB will enlighten us! Btw, I was fortunate to make a nice profit from place betting at Chelters today. it was far easier than doing the AW. Tomorrow looks difficult , however. I can't see a single good bet! |

The comment I currently favour is
" Ran on Well. Won by 3 lengths." Don't think that's quite the one JIB has in mind, but it will have to do me till we find out! Trying to link back with Mtoto's theory and Walter's running experiences, I feel that there is some connection between "staying on ability" ( stamina?) and " high cruising speed". This must be what class runners like , say, Tidal Bay, have a plenty, imo. |

I've noted the term "soon be paying his way", and observe that they do seem to go in pretty regularly soon after.
