Ive just checked again and Basaata has been pulled from Saturday`s race. The top weight Barshiba was withdrawn also and our filly would have to have shouldered 9st 7lbs, her new mark being 103. In all truth there were one or two lurking in here that could have given her a hard time of it so it`s probably for the best. Another waiting brief is called for im afraid but time is running out now especially at this time of the year for a filly that needs the good ground.
oh no,beaten again, wish me luck guys, never eaten a hat before.
On a serious note,I see on the betfair horse racing forum, there is a thread on VDW,where a website called racing-systems is put up,take a look,a bit of a shocker for me.
Would someone please pass Pipedreamer the salt . Just read the VDW piece on the other forum PD, the plot thickens?. I am almost certain that Guest had information to the effect that the man was deceased, and that also seemed to be the general view of the more experienced VDW members on Gummy.
Old Timer in a way i hope that Fulham has not found the gentleman responsible for the VDW articles. If he is indeed living in a bungalow in the south side of Market Harborough id let the old guy alone. He must be a grand age can you imagine how distressing this could be for an old un?.
One had to laugh at the supposed £250 on offer to the man to help with a question / answer session. Can you imagine having the potential to generate millions at your fingertips and a total stranger dangles half a monkey at you to come clean it beggars belief.
If it is indeed the same gentleman then there does seem to have been a least a modicum of embellishment somewhere down the line.
In such a case then I can see your point that it could indeed be distressing, but curiosity is the essence of human nature and sooner or later things have that habit of coming back to haunt you.
As to him being an old 'un, if it is the same chap then there are regular posters on here who are of comparable age. Certainly there would seem to be a wide divergence from the story that here was a 'sick' man who had suffered at the hands of the Germans in WWII
Of course, attention has to be paid to the particular circumstances of any case, but for a journey that started off trying to trace any relatives of a presumed deceased individual, the trail has had many unexpected twists and turns.
The man would have to be a decent age OT if he has lived there since 1958 and could have been a member of a Marvex syndicate. I have a book by Marvex dating from the 1930`s. In fact if you were to look back in this thread i have given mention to Marvex over the last wee while, just to try to stimulate some discussion you understand.

It could be that he picked up many of his ideas from Marvex and/or others; I believe that Marvex was very shrewd, but have never read any of his works.
No one is disputing that should he still be alive then the person we know as VDW would be in his mid to late 70s, but then in this day and age it is not unusual for such a person to have their full mental faculties.
Still, we shall no doubt find out more in due course.
BTW, Mtoto picked today's 50/1 winner, so at least his interpretation of VDW is still alive and doing well - I made do with Docofthebay!
No, it was one of his normal place only bets - he does them in rolling doubles and that's how he makes his bread and butter nowadays (it started as being his retirement fund).
Old timer all im saying is if that i was fortunate enough to sort out a 50/1 shot and bet it place only sure as Friday follows Thursday i would`nt risk losing the enormous place odds from same on a double.Would`nt have to surely.
well done walter, winning is nice, had a bad day myself, all a bit cloak and dagger this recent VDW development,I am a bit sceptical myself,I think Lee has proved that the methods work, and work very well.
