johnd i thought the trainer would take care of the ground,ie that if unsuitable then he would not run her, although it almost paid off.

6/5/07 Newmarket: Finsceal Beo. RPR 122 13/5/07 Longchamp: Finsceal Beo. RPR 116
Hardly backs up that view does it.
You think a horse can win 3 classic's in 3 weeks do you JohnD?
Your last sentence epitomises why people find VDW such a turn off, it's not the ideas as much as the arrogant nonsense spouted by people who use VDW like some mystery illness only they have a cure for.
As usual, you didn't have a view before the race, again, another aspect that has ruined the VDW image.
Do you actually bet?

pd Apparently they had a deluge 30 mins before the race, (Which not even a VDW follower could have foreseen .)She was damn near good enough anyway!

Thanks for the replies guys.
Ectoo, the race you mention is one I don't like, every year it is the same,a really trappy race.New Seeker as you say if the ground gets softer would have to be left,I honestly could not bet in this race, sorry not to be of help.

cheers PD
the time of the first race points towards SOFT ground, so I am not backing New Seeker.

phew
the value of knowing the exact state of the ground pays off..New Seekers form on soft and heavy ground is dire..so has run to his usual soft ground form there.

Here`s an extract from a book by Marvex.
At Windsor on August 1st & 3rd, 1942, there were 14 races on time figures i found 13 winners from 14 bets, including Indian Tea 100/7, and Scorch 100/8. The only loser was Its a Girl, which was beaten by 2 lengths."Raceform" states "Gave winner 3 lengths - caught up - weakened"; in other words he was slowly away and got left 3 lenghts at the start. One cannot possibly gnaw against that, and in the 6 furlong race on Monday won by Sugar Palm, my figures gave the first five in the correct order with only one point between first and second and third. In the actual race the winner won by a head,a head between second and third, then 1 length and a head between third and fourth and fourth and fith. What do you make of this guy?. Get gambling stopped all on his lonesome.

That's an old book, ain't it Walter?
Amadeus Wolf should win the 3.15 at York tomorrow, though I wouldn't expect the 5/1 lasting.

There are a couple in the race that im not that sure about notably Steenberg at 27.0 & Soldiers Tale at 7.2. But ive gone along with JD with Amadeus Wolf at 5.9 to win & the 2.12 to place so hopefully he will be on the job tomorrow. A place would do lol, a win would be great.

The £7.7K 4.25 at York wouldn't normally gain the attention of a VDW'er, as the prize wouldn't be big enough to attract the type of horse we would be looking for. However, Alrida , who has winning form against much better horses than these, is in the care of R Fahey, who just happens to have been a close friend of the person whom the race is a memorial to. Appears to have been trained with this in mind too, so has to be worth a bet at the f/c 6/1, unless the ground is seriously soft.

Alrida had a couple of years out with leg trouble formerly with Willie Jarvis it looks as if he was bought to go hurdling with Fahey. He won a decent prize at Market Rasen before switching codes and winning again on the flat 2m 5f at Goodwood 23k. Has had a couple of pipe openers at Wolves & Musselburgh 1m 6f, back to an extreme dist today 2m 2f at York. Check out ground though only won on good/ good/firm but may appreciate a bit of juice now having had leg problems in the past. The wee jockey has had 4 winners in the last 2 weeks, albeit over shorter trips. The two previous winners of this race were drawn 16 & 17 so hopefully the 14 berth wont hinder too much. Worth an interest win & place at 6.6 & 2.19 given JD`s previous comments.

R.Fahey`s just been on ATR & has stated he is a wee bit concerned about the ground for Alrida but he would be confident of a win today if it had been similar ground to his Goodwood win. He did say though that this race has been mapped out for the horse & he is hopeful of a good run.

Philanthropy, 3.00 Newm, looks a likely winner at a decent price.
