I'm off to Cheltenham on Tuesday and back home on Friday night,so I'll need a few winners.

My thoughts at the moment,

Kauto Star good thing.

Brave Inca good thing, but I have a nagging doubt about it.

The ground will be very important as ever, and all bets will be subject to the conditions on the day.

Beef or Salmon I can't have, although if he is ever to win a Gold Cup it has to be this year, but not for me.

I think the World Hurdle won't take much winning, but I haven't finalised it yet,and I have yet to look at any handicaps.

JIB here (I'm using a borrowed membership!)

Mtoto,

V well done with your antepost on My Way De Solzen.

If it is not too rude can I ask what you got on at?

And as a further impertinance would you be prepared to say why you took the risk of unsuitable going?

JIB,

The bulk of the bet was on at 20/1 the remainder at 14 and 16. I was always reasonably happy King would pull him out if it got too firm, he had before. Most good horses have at least one run on the wrong surface if he decided to take the chance. Plus I live a very short walk from the course so I do know the ground conditions. The one big worry was my 2nd rated was Golden Cross and as the figures were very close and I was sure he would like the firmer going. When the bet(s) were placed GC hadn't shown he would get the distance. It was a bit of a hairy morning. Especially when the first race was run is such a fast time. It wasn't all plain sailing as my other ante post bet went down today Kasbah Bliss. Win some lose some but always stick to the consistent horses Wink

Be Lucky

Mtoto,

Thanks, lovely prices!

And once again v well done.

Although there arent many inconsistant horses at the festival some do manage to win. Yesterday I had all four of Hendersons in the hcp chs and of course Greenhope won. Why some might ask...Hendersons record in hcp chs at Cheltenham is simply outstanding and this year he had two winners in them, with Non So also winning.

This year 16 hcp chs runners, 2 winners, 20pts profit at SP, considerably better on the exchanges (29.5 for me).

Saturday, Aintree, 4.15 Numbersixvalveverde

Max bet. Big Grin

I can do VDW, me.

Joking aside did the same as the Gold Cup. Backed Hedgehunter, laid off in running for a paid for 7/1 bet (on both races I should have waited as the odds went much shorter than I laid at) - shame he didn't win either, the paid for was nice the win would have been better.

A mathematician, a physicist, an engineer went again to the races and laid their money down. Commiserating in the bar after the race, the engineer says, "I don't understand why I lost all my money. I measured all the horses and calculated their strength and mechanical advantage and figured out how fast they could run..."

The physicist interrupted him: "...but you didn't take individual variations into account. I did a statistical analysis of their previous performances and bet on the horses with the highest probability of winning..."

"...so if you're so hot why are you broke?" asked the engineer. But before the argument can grow, the mathematician takes out his pipe and they get a glimpse of his well-fattened wallet. Obviously here was a man who knows something about horses. They both demanded to know his secret.

"Well," he says, "first I assumed all the horses were identical and spherical..."

I know that it's blatent after-timing ,- but I don't give a hoot !!

I looked at the 3.35 at Yarmouth today , and found one of the most outrajous examples of Sir Mark Precotts stratagies that I have ever seen !!!

He ran the horse at 6f - 7f- and then 5f - with results of 0-0-0 !

Amazingly - the bugger ups the trip to 1m 3f !

and guess what ??

it hacks up !! at15/2 !!!

What a "Star" - watch him !!

Missed it - Frown

TC,
In a roundabout way they all take a bit of watching but VDW`s advice was to be careful & pick a few stables to follow, monitoring closely what each one did with their charges.
In his opinion it was thought reasonably possible for anyone to become accustomed to the way each Trainer/Stable worked.

It's May last year since there was a post on this thread !!

Since 2001 there have been nearly 20,000 posts on the thread !!!

Has it suddenly become a "Black Hole" - or have those interested in the subject - gone elsewhere ??

or is it time to revive interest in Gummies favourite reading ???

Razz

Like visiting old battlefields its strange seeing flowers growing over the trenches.

The conflict has fizzled out and moved on, the main forces of the enemy have long been broken and only a few guerilla bands remain to disturb both old foes.

Some have a debt of gratitude, and refuse to sell their souls to the devil; speaking of which, is this ezboard another of Fulham's refugee camps? Big Grin

Jd,

Fulham has moved on.

Perhaps it was our sincerity on these boards that convinced him that we were not without reason. If not some other event has persuaded him that opening his approach has brought its own recompense.

For my own part I have learnt apects of horseracing from him in the last few months that previously I would have been axiomatically opposed to because they came from his side of the argument.

As I have developed my own philosophies he seems to recognise in them parts that he now sees as vital to the larger picture.

I think we drew up our truce after I put up Little Flora 320K 03-04-06 on another now defunct forum. If you have a look at the horse, its form, and trainer I think you will see where we are coming from.
