Barney,

Only just seen your posting, although this is a B handicap, I think it is a weak race. I think you must be careful when using the form from this race in other B races. Because of this I haven't gone into very much detail with this race. If push came to shove, and I had to have a bet. I would expect Persian King to confirm the the placing with Old Marsh, and win. He has proven he can act on a stiff course, and that is half the battle at Cheltenham. As I say not really a race I would play in though.

If you play be VERY lucky.

LOL,Barney,I'm not really getting involved in the flat this week, with the constant changes in going, also I find a lot of trainers use this time of the season for handicapping their horses for next season.NH is going ok though, but nothing concrete for me today.

re Glinger

I reckoned the race was between Glinger, Cape Stormer and Rufius, and in the end I favoured
Glinger on his recent novice chase wins. I got them right but in the wrong order! I suppose I should have done a comination Lunchtime Trifecta!!

Right now I just can't pick a winner!!

I think thats quite impressive - re Glinger was the course suited for him today ? Perhaps on further analysis there was a question mark

That was a very strange ride on DG, in a good position 2 out, he checks and switches the horse, then makes up about 6l to be beaten a length.
It's hard to be objective when you've backed the best horse in the race and seen it lose; maybe they weren't sure about the ground, or simply that the money wasn't down today. This game could drive you barmy in time.
Let's hope it runs again this season. Hope you had a good day today.

Regards

Mostly place, place, place, I was pleased with the 4/5 on simber hill though I thought that would have been a bit shorter myself.

I agree about the ride, I thought he boxed it in very well early on and when the gaps appeared it was hard work to block it in again.

I expect guest had a field day today, I saw lots I thought he would back.

Rob,

I think when there are conflicting methods, as in that race, that's where you need a book. Do you ever use this.

Hi all
I wonder if G Hall took up vdw's sugestion.

"If our friend insists upon more bets he may care to note the two shortest priced forecast favourites at the two main meetings and check their merit using the same criteria as in the other method. Again, he will achieve a high win ratio, but alas, the prices will be short although profitable if use is made of the staking plan I also gave."

Anyone using this approach at present ?

It could be a good learning curve , at the very least there would be common ground in that we would all be looking at two potential selections that we know VDW said would be worth looking at rather than guessing what may have been a potential VDW selection!

All the best
Chris B

Radar......Nothing in its form, flat or jumps, to suggest it needs this trip.

Kings Rapid.....This owner has a lot of horses with the Smiths. The horse seems to have had some sort of problem, but if she has sorted it out, it should be better than these. Good luck if you back it.
Fishing in some iffy waters aren't we?.

Good idea; as today's racing is a load of crap, for interest's sake I will put up what I consider to be qualifiers. Difficult to decide which are "two main meetings?" so I have done all three.

1.10 sed The Nomad

2.30 str Maousse Honor

2.20 lin Vierra

In my opinion all 3 qualify on the factors known at that time. Looking at the selections, there is a possibility of a lsp on 3 singles; By around 2.40 this afternoon, we could all be millionaires! Those two flys still there, Barney?

Chris B has spotted a good way in my opinion to focus attention. It will also serve the purpose of keeping the workload sensible, particularly for those still trying to grasp the fundamentals. Not every day will anything come of the work but at least you’ll be looking where the winners are.

Now with the National Hunt looming another good method that VDW put forward was that of noting the principal non-handicap chase and the principal handicap chase of the day. Evaluate these races, keeping in mind that form horses win a high percentage of races and when the work is done, wager only if the resultant selection is in the first two of the forecast.

Like he said, using these two methods you will be fishing in well-stocked waters, providing you know your craft.

Hi guys
Well three awful races to look at,personally I think there is a factor that goes against Maousse Honor so I'd reduce it to The Nomad and Viera.
To be honest I wouldn't touch any of these races but looking at it from a possible G Hall perspective The Nomad and Viera look to fit the numerical picture.
Without further form study It will be interesting to see how things pan out.

Chaz
I couldn't agree with you more, I think where the merit lies with VDW'S sugestions is that given time it should become apparent the horses that deserve to be at the shorter end of the f/cast.

All the best
Chris
